Miranda's pov
Jason all of a sudden hoists me up into a tree. "What are you doing!?" I cry. He pulls out his pistol. "Keeping my promise!" He says, backing up as the first walkers come into view. "What are you talking about?!" I screech. "I promised you, Merle, and myself that I'd keep you safe and I meant it." He says, shooting them. "Jason give me your hand!" I cry. He looks around shooting more. "Get your stubborn redneck ass in this damn tree!" I scream holding out my hand. He smiles and grips my hand and I pull him up. We don't have enough bullets and arrows to fight off the fifty or so walkers surrounding the tree. "We're gonna die!" I whimper, clinging to him. He holds onto me and the tree. "No you won't." He says, kissing my head. He fires off a few more, killing them.
Daryl's pov
I can't believe Merle is dead. The leader of this makeshift group. Now it's up to me to take care of us and our sister. Wait! Where is she!? "Anyone seen Miranda?" I gasp. Everyone looks around. "No, and come to think about it I haven't seen that cowboy either!" T-Dog gapes, looking around. I've got to find her. Shots from a gun ring out across the forest. I run in that direction with T-Dog and Michonne hot on my heels.
Jason's pov
The ring she wears glints in the light. I stare at it and then stare at the one on my finger. "If we die right here, at least I die by the girl I love." I say, standing up as one swipes at me. I lace my fingers with hers and kiss her. "I don't know what I'd do without you." She whispers. The tree shakes. "This is the end." She whimpers, staring into my eyes. "At least we're together." I say, kissing her again. My bullets and her arrows ran out a while ago. Suddenly I hear the pop from a gun. I look up surprised. Daryl, Michonne, and T-Dog run in the clearing shooting these monsters. I'm so caught off guard I lose my balance, falling out of the tree. She lands on top of me. "You okay?" She asks. My leg is killing me and I can't move it. "Babe, I think I broke my leg." Her eyes go wide fearful and a walker stumbles toward us. She stands up pulling out her knife as she stabs it. "You've protected me so many times. It's my turn to protect you." She says. I smile. "That's my badass girlfriend." I say. She smiles. She takes like 4 more out. Then Daryl and all them kill the rest. She puts the knife back up and helps me up. We get back to camp.
Miranda's pov
He lays down in the bed in the rv, his leg broken. Everyone else is discussing what to do. "He's a liability. He's just gonna slow us down." "What! We can't kick him out." I cry. "We have to. There's no choice. If we have to move fast, he won't be able to." Daryl says gently. "He won't be able to walk fast enough." Hershel adds. I glare at him in fury. "Says the guy who only has one leg!" I snap. "I'm used to walking one legged now. He's not." He counters. "If he goes I go!" I shout. "No you aren't." "Oh yeah and who's gonna stop me?" I growl crossing my arms. "I am." I spin around surprised. Jason leans against the rv's doorframe. "What are you talking about?!" I cry, running over. "They're right darlin'. I'm just endangering the group now." He says, sadly, staring at the ground. "But Hershel completely lost his leg and we didn't throw him out!" I gasp, panicked. "We were safe in the prison babe. Now we're out in the open. It's just too dangerous." He says, clasping my hand and meeting my eyes. I shake my head tears raining down my cheeks. "No you can't leave! I can't lose you and Merle in the same day!" I scream, terrified backing up.
Jason's pov
She pulls out her knife pressing it against her throat! "No don't!" I cry, making a swipe for it, missing and falling on the ground, my leg screaming in pain. I pull myself up with my assault rifle. "Come on honey don't do that!" I gasp, reaching for it, missing again, and falling again. Ugh. I stay on the ground this time. She gets on her knees beside me. "You can't leave me." "I have to darlin'. To keep you safe." I say. She kisses me catching me off guard, my hands grip the grass beside me tightly. I have to but I can't. "You said so yourself. You wanna die by my side." She whimpers. "I did say that, didn't I?" I say, with a smile. "So you're staying?" She asks. I look up at Daryl who sighs and nods. "Yeah baby girl, I'm stayin'." "Yes!!" She cries, hugging my neck. I laugh and wrap my arms around her. "I can't live without you." She whispers. "And I wouldn't wanna." I say.
*later*
I wonder how long it'll take for my leg to heal. Hershel casted it for me since before the apocalypse he was a vet. Like my dad. And he knew how to do it. Daryl comes up the rv steps. "I know it'd be safer if I left but Daryl I just can't. I can't leave her." He sighs and nods. "I know. You love her and she loves you. At least someone can find that in this fucked up world. Ya damn romance novel." I laugh. "Thanks for lettin' me stay man." He nods. "You make my sister happy. Since the whole damn thing started, that's something I haven't seen on her." He says with a smile. She walks up the steps, her knife in her hand. "What's that out for?" I ask. "I had to sharpen it." She says, sitting beside me. Daryl waves and leaves. "It looks like I'm gonna be bedridden for a while honey." She hugs me tight. "Promise me one thing." She whispers, her voice barely audible. "Anything babe." "You won't leave." I sigh and hug her tighter. "I promise. And you know a cowboy keeps his promises." She smiles. "You better." "I will. I promise." She laughs and lays her head on my chest. "I'll be bedridden with you." She whispers. "The best company." I say, rubbing her back. Pretty soon, she's snoring. I smile. I have to leave her but I can't. I just can't. I love her too much.
