Chapter Three

The next day in school, I was on my way to algebra when I bumped into John.

“Oh. I’m so sorry Tiffany,” he said.

“Um yea. It’s ok,” I said.

“Hey where’d you go last night? You left before I could show you my surprise,” he said.

“Oh, well I wasn’t feeling very well so Brad’s parents took me home,” I explained.

“Oh, ok. Well I know you would’ve loved it. Just cause it came from me,” he said.

“Don’t flatter yourself pretty boy,” I said, walking away.

During lunch, I sat down in my regular seat. Everybody kept talking and laughing and having an awesome time. Good thing Kira noticed that something wasn’t right with me.

“Hey Tiffany. Are you alright?” she asked me.

“What? Oh, I’m fine,” I said.

“She didn’t feel very well last night at church. My parents had to take her home,” Brad said.

“But you’re ok now right Tiffany?” Hayden asked me.

“Yea, I’m just a little tired,” I said.

“Wait. Did you do another one of your time travel things?” Kira whispered to me.

I nodded.

I was glad that Brad wasn’t paying attention. Kira and Hayden both knew that I had special powers but I never told Brad. Not that he wouldn’t believe me considering he’s a werewolf and all that. I just didn’t want to have him worrying about me since he has that werewolf thing to worry enough about. Oh, and if you were wondering: Kira and Hayden also know that Brad is a werewolf. So they know that I have to use my time powers a lot. Especially around him.

In biology, it was really weird because John kept looking at me and smiling. It weirded me out a little bit. Which was why I was completely bummed when the teacher said, “We’re going to be doing an experiment and I need all of you to choose a partner to work with.” The whole class groaned. Including me. Because I knew who I would get stuck with. And sure enough, as soon as Mrs. Gibbs said that, John jumped up and said, “Tiffany is my partner!” Mrs. Gibbs was a little bit shocked but she didn’t oblige. (Thanks a lot Mrs. Gibbs)

“So Tiffany, it seems kind’ve weird that we were paired up together,” John said, as soon as we were sitting down together.

“Um, we’re only partners in this stupid experiment because you chose me and no one else wanted to argue with you,” I said.

“Well, yea. But still. I think it’s fate. Do you?” John said.

“I THINK that you need to back off so we can get this project done,” I said.

“Fair enough,” he replied. He picked up the beaker. “So what are we supposed to do with this?”

I sighed. “You have the brain of a squirrel,” I said.

He laughed. “So, how long have you and Brad been going out?” he said.

“Um, I don’t think that has anything to do with biology,” I said.

He was starting to bug me.

“I know but I was just wondering,” he said.

“Well, next week it will be exactly 2 months,” I said, pouring some kind of liquid into the beaker.

“Oh. Cool…………………so why do you like him?” John said.

“Because he’s not you,” I said.

“No, seriously. Why? He just seems out of this world sometimes. Kinda different,” he said.

“You have NO idea,” I said.

“So when are you going to break up with him?” he asked.

I got up. “Ok. That’s it. I’m going to ask Mrs. Gibbs if I can switch partners,” I said.

He grabbed my hand.

“Don’t. I’m sorry. It’s just, you have no idea how much I like you. You have no idea how much it hurts me to see you with Brad. It……it tears my heart in two. I want to be with you. I want to be the one that holds your hand when we walk down the halls. I want to be the one that will hold you when you’re sad. I want to be yours,” he said.

When I was sure that he was through, I said, “Look John……..ok first of all, that was kind’ve cheesy. No one says stuff like that anymore. But I am sorry. I had no idea you felt like this. I thought this was just a game that you were playing,”

“Well it’s not. I really like you Tiffany. A lot. I just wish you’d let me show you how much I like you,” John said.

“Tell you what, if you will get serious on this project that we’re SUPPOSED to be doing, I’ll let you sing the song that you were going to sing to me at church,” I said.

“How did you possibly know about that?” he asked.

“A little birdie told me,” I said.
