Chapter Fifteen

Whoa, ok. My grandma just told me that Brad is my soul mate? This can NOT get any weirder.

“Um, you’re kidding right?” I said.

“I’m afraid not. That’s why you can only hear Brad’s thoughts. He’s communicating with you with his mind,” she said.

“This is a lot to take in,” I said.

“But what about me and Tiffany?” John asked. “She can still date me right?”

“Wait. You two are boyfriend and girlfriend?” grandma said.

We nodded.

“I’m sorry, but if you two stay together for very long, there will be very horrible consequences,” she said.

“But I don’t understand. We’ve already been together for a while now and nothing’s happened yet,” I said.

“How long have you two been together?” she said.

“Um, a few weeks maybe,” I said.

“It’s only been like 3 or 4 days Tiffany,” John said.

“It has? Huh. It seems longer,” I said.

“Well, a few weeks or a few days, it doesn’t matter. Bad things usually start happening within the first couple of months,” she said.

“Exactly what kind of things happen?” I asked.

“You’re going to have to find that out on your own. But I must warn you, it’s not pretty,” she said.

“We can handle it,” John said.

“I wouldn’t be so sure,” grandma said.

“I’m sure. Let’s go Tiffany,” John said.

I got up and followed him out the door.

“Wait!” she shouted after us. “You don’t know what you’re getting yourselves into!”

“We’ll take our chances!” he shouted back.

I didn’t look back until I couldn’t see her house anymore.

“No offense, but you’re granny is a loony,” John said.

We were on our way back home.

“She is not a loony!” I said.

“I think she is. Nothing is keeping me from being with you. I’ve waited since 6th grade to be your boyfriend and I am NOT giving up my position now!” he said.

I looked at him and laughed and then I got serious.

“John, what if what she’s saying is true?” I asked.

“Who gives a crap?” John said.

“Well, who knows what’s going to happen? It could be pretty bad, John,” I said as my voice shook.

“Well, I’m up for anything,” he said.

“Me too,” I lied.

The next couple of months were awesome. John and I spent lots of time together. We went bowling and went to see movies just like normal teenagers did. I completely forgot about the warning my grandma gave me. Until one night.

John and I were at my house watching a movie together. It was a little childish. “The Spongebob Squarepants Movie”. But come on, who DOESN’T love Spongebob?

Well, apparently John doesn’t.

“This is the best. Don’t ya think?” I asked him.

“You mean the movie or spending time with you?” he said.

I laughed.

“Both,” I said.

“Ehh, the movie I don’t really care for but I love spending time with you,” he grinned at me.

“Wait. Hold the phone. You don’t like Spongebob?” I said.

“I did. When I was 7,” he said.

“Are you calling me immature?” I said.

“Maybe,” he said.

“Ugghhh! Meany!” I said.

“Well, maybe this will help,” John said.

He leaned in to kiss me. I closed my eyes and waited for the wonderful touch of his soft lips. Instead, I got shocked.

“OWW!” I said.

“What’s wrong?” John said, pulling away.

“I don’t know. I think you shocked me. With your lips!” I said.

“Is that even possible?” John asked.

“Well it HAPPENED so I’m pretty sure it’s possible!” I said.

“Ok. Calm down. Look, we’re on carpet and we have shoes on. Why don’t we take off our shoes and go somewhere else?” he said.

“Ok. I guess that’ll help,” I said.

We both took off our shoes and went outside on the front porch.

“Now. Where were we?” John asked.

“I think I have a pretty good idea,” I said.

We leaned in to kiss again. As soon as John touched my lips, I got shocked again. But it was more powerful than the last time.

“OWW! Shit!” I said.

“Tiffany!” John said.

He knows that I never ever cuss. Except for this one special occasion. Cause this hurt. Badly!

“I’m sorry, John. But that really hurt,” I said.

“Well, how in the world did you get shocked this time?” he asked.

He walked around the porch inspected everything.

“It’s not anything outside that’s doing this, John. It’s us,” I said.

“What do you mean?” he asked.

“Remember when we went to see my grandma? She warned us that things would start happening if we continued to date. Remember that?” I asked him.

“Oh, yea. Your cuckoo lady,” he said.

“Stop it, John. She’s not cuckoo. And I happen to believe what she’s saying,” I said.

“Oh, come ON! This is like a sci-fi movie gone bad,” he said.

“Well, John. I don’t want to take any chances,” I said.

“What are you saying?” he asked.

“I’m saying that maybe we should take a break,” I said.

“You mean, break up?” he said.

I nodded.

“So you’re going to let your own granny, that you just met, break us up?” he asked.

“I’m sorry, John. I don’t know what else to do. I’m scared,” I said.

I started crying.

“It’s ok,” John said.

He hugged me. Which he shouldn’t have done.

I felt a big spark course through my whole body. And then, everything went black.
