Chapter Thirty-Eight

John’s P.O.V.

I knew Tiffany was going to get in major trouble for not going to school. I decided to go over to her house and tell her mom that it was all my fault. I got out my cell phone and tried calling her first to see if she was alright. I got no answer. I tried again, still no answer. I was starting to get worried. Then, my cell phone rang. I looked at the caller ID and sighed with relief.

“Tiffany, I….”

“No, this is her mother,”

“Mrs. Jones? What’s wrong? Why won’t Tiffany answer her phone?”

“I don’t know! I heard glass shattering and I went up to her room and she’s not there! I think someone kidnapped her!” her mom was breathing really heavily.

“Ok, calm down, Mrs. Jones. Wait. Did you say you heard glass shattering?” I asked her.

“Yes, her window is busted. You need to come here as fast as you can! Oh, my poor baby!” she started crying.

“Don’t worry, Mrs. Jones. I’ll handle it,” I hung up and immediately called Eric’s cell phone.

“Hello?”

“Dude, I need your help! NOW!”

Tiffany’s P.O.V

I kept running and running, having no idea where I was going. I kept seeing trees rush by me so I figured I must be in a forest somewhere. I stopped running for a second, to catch my breath. I heard a twig snap somewhere behind me. I whirled around and came face to face with another werewolf.

“Tiffany?” the wolf said.

“Eric?” I said. “What are you doing here?”

“I think the better question is what are YOU doing here?” he said.

“I don’t know. I guess I got mad at my mom and, well, changed,”

“Do you know how dangerous that is, to run wild like that? You could’ve gotten killed!” he said.

“How?” I asked.

“It’s hunting season you know. People hunt in the woods,” he pointed out.

“Oh. Right,” I said. “I’m sorry. I just couldn’t help myself. I just got this adrenaline rush and I felt like I had to run away,”

“Well, jumping out windows is not the correct way to handle a problem,”

“How did you know about that?” I asked.

“John called and told me. Apparently, your mom called John because she was scared out of her mind and John told me where you and him came one time so I tried here first,” he explained.

“What do you….” I looked around. I was in the exact spot where John sang to me. “Oh,”

“I guess your instincts led you here,” Eric guessed.

“Yea, I guess so,” I said. Suddenly, I heard another twig snap. I looked behind me and saw a man with a gun pointed right at me. I didn’t have time to react before I saw the bullet flying straight towards me. I closed my eyes and waited for the impact. When I didn’t feel it, I opened my eyes again. I saw another werewolf on the ground, bleeding from where the bullet hit him. “Eric?” I said.

“I’m right here,” he said, coming up behind me.

“Then who…” I started to say. I looked down and the werewolf on the ground was transforming back to his human form. I gasped.

“BRAD?” I said. “You took that bullet for me,”

“Yep. That’s me. Saving people’s lives,” he said. Then, I heard a scream. I had forgotten all about the man that had shot at me. I guess he was screaming because he saw a wolf change into a human. I guess that kinda scares people who aren’t used to it. Eric started to jump on him.

“Wait!” I called out. I looked closely at the man. “Dad?” I said in bewilderment. Of course, he couldn’t hear me. He was trembling from head to toe. Eric looked at me.

“Let him go,” I said. Eric just growled at him and he took off running.

“That was your dad?” Eric said to me.

“Yea. I haven’t seen him since I was little,” I said.

“Then, how did you know that was him?” he asked.

“Oh, I would know that face anywhere,” I said. “Wait. Brad!” I said. I kneeled down beside him.

“I’ll go get help,” Eric said. He ran off.

“You might want to do the same thing,” Brad said suddenly.

“What are you talking about?” I asked him.

“Nothing. Just you might want to watch your back. There are things you don’t know about, Tiffany Jones,” he said. He smiled evilly and then to my horror, he changed into a crow and flew away.
