Chapter Thirty-One

Brad and I rode to my house in silence. Well, mostly silence.

“Hey, um…” Brad started to say.

“I thought I said to not talk to me,” I said.

“Just listen………….if it makes you feel any better, Eric came to my house and threw my iPhone out the window,” he said.

I started chuckling. “Ok, I guess that helps a LITTLE. But I’m still mad at you,”

“I don’t blame you. What I did was stupid,” he said.

“Yes, it was,” I replied. Then he pulled up in front of my house.

“Here you go,” he said.

“Thanks for the ride,” I said quietly.

“Don’t mention it,” he said. I got out and went inside. I went up straight to my room and sat on my bed. On impulse, I tried turning on the TV, completely forgetting that it was busted.

“Stupid Brad,” I said to myself. I threw the remote in my closet and heaved a big sigh. I was about to turn off the light and go to sleep, when my cell phone rang. It was Kira.

“Hello?” I said.

“Hey. So, tomorrow’s the big day,” she said.

“Huh?” I said.

“Your birthday!” she said.

“That’s tomorrow?” I said.

“Yes! You don’t even remember your own birthday? And I thought I was dumb,” she said.

“No, it’s just I completely forgot, what with everything that’s been going on,” I said.

“Yea, speaking of that, why haven’t you and John been at school? Did you two freelope together?” she said.

“What?” I said.

“You know, run off together to get married,” Kira said.

“That’s elope, not freelope,” I said.

“Oh. Well, still why haven’t you two been at school?” she asked again.

“It’s complicated and I don’t want to get into it right now,” I said.

“Oh, ok. So what do you want for your birthday?” she said.

“What is this? Twenty questions?” I said.

“No, I just want to get you a present,” she said.

“Sorry. I’m a little stressed out. For my birthday, I just want everything to be back to the way it was before all of the werewolf stuff,” I said.

“Well, I can’t wrap that,” she said.

I laughed. “I know. I’m just venting. If you were a REALLY good friend, you’d get me a new iPod touch,” I said.

“I wish I could, but I don’t have enough money on me for that,” I said.

“How much money do you have?” I asked.

“About 5 bucks,” she said.

“You’re kidding right?” I said.

“Sadly, no. How about I get you a nice candy bar?” she said.

“It’s fine. You don’t have to get me anything,” I said.

“Well, I want….” I heard a beep on her end of the line.

“Another call?” I asked.

“Nope. Text message,” she said.

“From who?” I asked her.

She paused. “Um, my grandma,”

“Your grandma knows how to text?” I asked her.

“Uh, yea, she’s not into all of those old age stuff,” she said.

“Okkkk,” I said.

“Omgee! I just thought of what to do for your birthday!” she said.

“And what’s that?” I asked.

“Tomorrow, I’m going to take you to the mall and buy you anything you want! You name it, I buy it,” she said.

“I thought you only had 5 bucks. No offense, but that won’t even get me a bracelet,” I said.

“I know, but uh, my mom just gave me a raise on my allowance,” she said.

“Kira, what’s going on?” I asked her.

“Nothing!” she said.

“I don’t believe you,” I said.

“Well, would you rather NOT believe me, or would you rather go to the mall tomorrow?” she said.

“The mall…………….as long as you’re not planning on shoplifting, I’ll go with you,” I said.

“I’m not,” she said.

“Ok, I’ll go,” I said.

“YAY! I’ll pick you up tomorrow at 10,” she said.

“In the morning?” I said.

“Yes, silly. We have to get there bright and early before they take all of the good stuff,” she said.

“But….” I tried to say, but all I heard was the dial tone.

“Oh, that girl is up to something,” I said to myself.

-Hmm, so what do you think is going on with Kira? Why is she acting so strange? I'll let ya know soon. :) I'll try and post more often this week since it's Thanksgiving break. Thanks for reading!
