Chapter Eight

When I opened my locker, sure enough, I found the note that John was talking about. I opened it and started reading it

To: Tiffany

From: John

I was wondering if you maybe wanted to go out with meJ.

Please let me know soon.

Love, John.

“Awww!” I said out loud.

It was so sweet! If only I wasn’t still going out with Brad.

The next two weeks were really harsh. Brad ignored every single one of my emails, phone calls, texts and he even ignored me every time I tried to talk to him.

I was in English with Kira so I decided to ask her what I should do.

“I mean, he can’t break up with me if he doesn’t talk to me,” I was saying.

“Well, Tiffany, he’s going around the whole school saying you two are through,” she said.

“Well we’re not. At least, I don’t THINK we are. I feel so bad about almost kissing John in front of him, but I said I was sorry,” I said.

“Yea, but sorry doesn’t always make it better,” Kira said.

“Yea. I guess you’re right,” I told her.

“But do you blame him? You kissed John right in front of him! If I was a werewolf like him, I probably would’ve eaten you by now,” she said.

“No. I did NOT kiss him. I was very close to, but I didn’t!” I said.

“So in other words, you almost cheated on him,” she said.

“I didn’t mean---------------That was a complete------------John was the one who---------OH, SHUT UP!” I said.

Kira didn’t really have a choice because at that time our teacher Mrs. Dee walked in.

Later that day, I decided that I had had enough. Brad was going to talk to me whether he liked it or not.

It was our break time. We had 15 minutes each day where we could go outside, get snacks out of the snack machine, or just hang around the school. I didn’t think it was a very smart idea because a lot of the times during breaks, is when people got into the most trouble. There have been lots of fights, smoking, drinking, and the occasional rape in the bathroom stalls. (Yea, our school isn’t the best) But I knew where Brad would be. Every day he goes outside and sits at one of the tables to listen to his iPod or hang out with his buddies. My luck was on my side today because Brad was all alone.

I walked up to him.

“Ahem,” I said.

And nothing.

“Brad?” I said.

He was just staring off into the distance like I wasn’t even there.

Oh. Wait. He had his headphones in. STUPID!

I walked right in front of him so he HAD to notice me this time.

I was right. He noticed. He took his earphones out.

“May I help you?” he asked me.

“Yes. You can,” I said.

He started at me waiting for me to continue.

“I was just wondering, um……how have you been?” I asked.

“How have I been?” he asked me.

I nodded.

“Well, not too good considering how my girlfriend kissed another guy! And not just any guy. No, it had to be the captain of the football team. The stupidest guy on the planet,” he said.

“I said I was sorry,” I said.

“No. You whispered it when I was…..” he lowered his voice “a werewolf,”

“So? It still counts. And honestly, I didn’t kiss John,” I said.

“Yea, but you would have if I wouldn’t have interfered,” he said.

I didn’t have a comeback for that.

“Look, I’m sorry. Is there any way you can forgive me?” I asked.

He sighed

Never a good sign.

“I don’t think so,” he said.

He got up to leave.

“Wait!” I said.

He turned around.

“Are you breaking up with me?” I said.

“I thought I already did that,” he said.

“Um, no. Not yet. You told everyone else that you did but you didn’t exactly end it yet,” I said.

“Oh. Well, Tiffany, I’m sorry, but it’s over,” he said, as he walked away.

I was standing outside all by myself.

“Well, that went well,” I said to myself.
