Chapter Twelve

After school, I had just got home when the phone was ringing.

“Really?” I said out loud.

I answered it.

“Hello?” I said.

“Hey,” it was John.

“Oh, hey John,” I said.

“So how is your ‘reading mind’ thing working out?” he asked.

(I had told him about that during Biology)

“Honestly, I have no idea what happened. I just started hearing Brad’s voice in my head. But I couldn’t read Kira’s mind. It was really weird,” I explained.

“Hmm well is it a new power? Kinda like the time traveling thing?” he asked.

“I’m not sure,” I said.

“Well where did you get your time traveling powers from?” he asked me.

“I don’t know that either,” I said.

“Wow. So you just developed these powers having no idea where you got them,” he said.

“Um, yea,” I said.

“Do your parents know?” he asked.

“Yea, I told them when I was little but I don’t know if they believed me or not,” I said.

“Well, maybe you should talk to them. You know, try and figure out why you’re hearing voices,” he said.

“You make it sound like I’m a crazy person. And it’s not voices it’s VOICE. One. Singular. Uno,” I said.

“Yea, ok. But I still think you need to talk to somebody about this,” he said.

I sighed.

“Ok. Fine,” I said.

“Good,” he said.

Suddenly I heard the front door close.

“Hey, John, I think that’s my mom. I’ll call you back later ok?” I said.

“Ok. Bye,” he said.

“Bye,” I hung up.

I looked at mom.

“Hey, Mom. I have a question,” I said.

“Sure, what is it sweetie?” she asked me.

“Remember when I was little and I told you that I could mess with time? Like make it go forward and backward and stuff?” I asked.

She laughed.

“Yes. I do remember that. You had such an active imagination,” she said.

“Right. Well see, that wasn’t my imagination,” I said.

She paused.

“What do you mean?” she said.

“I’ve been able to do stuff with time for a while now and I want to know where I get it from,” I said.

“Oh no,” Mom said. She seemed to be talking to herself. “I knew this would happen. I just didn’t think it’d be so soon,”

“What are you talking about? You mean you KNEW I could do this stuff?” I asked.

“Of course I knew honey. That’s what they told me when we adopted you,” she said.

I froze.

Wait. Adopted? I’m adopted?

“What?” I said.

“Honey, I knew I should’ve told you sooner. It’s just, well, I didn’t want you to get upset,” she said.

“Yea, great job with that,” I said.

“I’m sorry,” she said. “But honey, I do love you very much. Even though you aren’t my own flesh and blood, I still love you,”

“I know, but mom, (it was hard calling her that knowing she wasn’t my real mother) I want to find my birth parents,” I said.

“Well, the truth is, I have no idea where they are,” she said.

“You don’t?” I said.

“No, I’m sorry Tiffany,” she said.

“Well do you know their names?” I asked.

She nodded.

“Yes. Their names were Zack and Carly Stephenson,” she said.

“Oh. Cool. Thanks for telling me,” I said as I walked upstairs to my room.
