New Girl

"Hey, my name's Tyler." He was wearing a blue jacket with jeans and his eyes were the most beautiful eyes I've seen in my entire life. They were green with a pinch of gold in the middle. They left me speechless. I looked towards the ground instead. "Aww, don't be shy. What's your name?" He asked, his smile was the first thing my eyes went to. He had very tan skin and black fluffy hair. When looking up I started feeling hot, now even shyer than ever.

"Adara," I whimpered in a small voice.

"I think I heard Adara, right?" He asked stepping closer, I nodded and inched away. "I'm your new neighbor, so where's your house?" I looked finally up again.

"Well, it's actually a few blocks from here," I explained, and for the first time, I feel my shyness melting away. A deep thought went onto his face as he looked in the direction he was going.

"In the same direction, I'm going?" He asked, pointing.

"Yeah,"

"Then where are you going?"

"I was just taking a little walk in the neighborhood." I squeaked getting quieter on the edge of my sentence. He looked at the kitten in my arms, my eyes went down to it and noticed that it was asleep.

"Who's this little guy?" He asked while petting the kitten with two fingers.

"Well, haven't named her yet but I found her stuck underneath the fence in my backyard when looking for my family. Everyone is gone," I sighed while looking at the ground again.

"Don't worry about it, maybe the entire neighborhood is having a new neighbor gathering next door to your house. It only happens every time new people come to our place but they always leave the kids out of it." It feels like the world has been taken off of my shoulders. A small town where the people kidnap the new residents except for the kids. That is a little creepy, especially if they don't tell anyone.

"Maybe they should warn someone, that scared the crap out of me,"

"That's what I thought." There was a long pause, maybe we can keep this conversation going to my house. Maybe he might show me his house or something.

"Wanna come to my house?"

"Sure, I have nothing else I could do." We started the walk back. I realized that I can look him in the eye without noticing. Then the conversation changed to him. He's comfortable to be around like a nice friend. He was vague on his answers on some questions. Even yes or no would start out as a "well maybe..." Everyone was back and doing something busy like they never left, I'm not going crazy, right? Damon and Dad always have a mean look to every guy I meet. Right now they both look like they're going ready to beat someone up. Mom was calling Nisha when she saw me with Tyler she had the biggest change from "super sad that she misses Nisha" to "happy but not so happy that my daughter is already meeting guys." She walked over and the first thing she saw was the kitten in my arms.

"What is that?" Mom asked with a sour face.

"Haven't named her yet, but I was thinking about something like Midnight," I explained. Midnight started pawing my hand and flipped over in my arms.

"I think she likes it," Tyler added.

"Oh, Mom this is Tyler, Tyler my mom," I chimed.

"Hey, I just saw your parents next door." Mom stated. Then turned to me with a more stern look. "You can keep the cat as long as your brother doesn't get to it." Damon looked at us with a hard frown.

"What's that supposed to mean?" I rolled my eyes.

"Remember Squirt the turtle or Sofie the puppy?" I asked.

"Sofie chose to run away and Squirt is the only turtle that died by drowning." He snapped. I sighed, he didn't care about animals but he was happy when he had a pet. I really want to keep Midnight but school is on Monday. We just moved here on a Friday so maybe I can teach her a few things, just before going. We walked over to Dad and Damon, who were taking a break from lifting stuff all morning. They did not look happy from what I can see.

"Dad, Damon, this is my new friend and our new neighbor, Tyler," I said putting extra emphasis on friend.

"Hi," He greeted with a hopeful smile.

"Hey," Damon grunted. Dad looked at me with a raised eyebrow, I knew what that meant. The "too young to be hanging out with boys alone" look. It was an awkward silence that made me drag Tyler to my room upstairs.

"This is my room. Wanna help hang up some posters?" He looked sad or worried about something. "Hey! Are you okay?" He snapped out of it.

"Oh! Yeah, I'm fine." I've heard better lies.

"C'mon, you can tell me. I've known you for a couple minutes so we're friends right?" I joked. It feels strange, he's the only new person that sees me act like this. Other new people would just see me as a shy girl hiding in her coat. He, for some reason, is just so different. Even that little nervous grin of his made me think of him as something different.

"Ha, but it's just that, I don't think your family likes me," he sighed and looked towards the floor.

"Don't worry about it, that's how my family looks at every person I meet, even my best friends, but they'll get over it. They usually stop being mad about two weeks later." I laughed with a hint of memory with my old friends, I got a little sad. I put Midnight down, she climbs on top of my bed and just laid there.

"So where'd you move from?"

"Somewhere across state, I would tell you more but my mom won't let me,"

"That's understandable." How can he understand that? I hate always being so secretive, but Mom always says it's for my own safety. He went in my box and picked up one of my gamer posters.

"You like Halo? I thought girls don't play video games," He laughed sarcastically.

"I play every day but that's not the only game. I think my Xbox is still in the box with my tv so it might be awhile before I can start playing again." I sighed while unpacking my CallofDuty poster combined with my Minecraft poster. "Hold on, I think the tape is downstairs. I'll get it." I started walking out the room. Going down the stairs, my eyes went out the window and saw this large space like a void. The void was right next to the moving truck and it was about as tall as the moving truck as well. Looking around, my family was in the kitchen and Tyler was in my room. Curious, I walked outside to take a closer look, hoping to not regret this. Slowly, I stepped closer to the giant black hole, it was a rip in time. It was like looking into outer space, so hypnotizing. I felt a tug on my ankle, it was Midnight telling me to get away. Maybe listening is a good idea but something was telling me to touch it.
