"Watch out!"

A cool wind nipped at my shoulders and thighs, instantly making me regret wearing a tank top and jean shorts.

Mom had warned me against this, dang it.

But my pride was at stake. And therefore I could not shiver. I kept on running and at the very last moment tried to stop.

But it was of no use; Max was about to be swallowed by a sixty-pound, eleven-year-old girl.

We toppled and I landed right on top of him. He shoved me off of him and laughed. "Bee, you twat. Long-time no see!"

"I know right? It's been what, two hours since we last met? God, I missed you," I replied.

"Drama queen." he rolled his eyes, crushing me into one of his death hugs while trying to get up.

It was of no use. Another pair of arms toppled us to the floor. We squealed and I was crushed against Max's chest. "Not as dramatic as me." Came another voice.

"Zara. Dying. No air." Came our voices.

"Dolts," she said letting go. She frowned when she saw Max's arms still around my shoulders.

I felt really warm.

"I ship this!" came another a voice from over our heads.

I turned around and Max's arms fell from me.

I was taller than him by a whole five inches. Hopefully, our height difference stays this way. Cousin Jack was already beginning to grow taller than me dang it.

"Mum. Ew." I replied, sticking my tongue out.

Mum rolled her eyes.

Max opened his mouth to say something but was rudely interrupted.

"Tag your it!" yelled Riley, Max's ten-year-old sister.

"I'm going to kill you!" I yelled.

As soon as she tagged me, she took off, running like the dogs were chasing her.

Max, my supposed best friend laughed as he sprinted away from me.

Zara began picking at her nails, just as she'd seen the girl in her mom's favorite Netflix show do.

I sauntered towards her, a hellish grin on my face.

She looked up. "I'm wearing a new pair of shoes my mom just bought for me. I am not getting them dirty."

Bloody boogers.

I turned away from her and dashed across Max's back yard, searching for Max.

I spotted him catching his breath at the other end of the yard. When he caught my gaze he grinned and started running the away from me.

I have been and always will be faster than Max, so quickly overtook him.

Hitting him on the back I laughed breathlessly. "Tag your it!!"

"Ugh! No!!" he panted.

I raised my hands in defense. "You can't tag me back. Best friend rules."

"But you just tagged me," he deadpanned.

"I used the emergency tagger clause."

"You already used your clause last week!"

"Yeah, I'm using next month's clause," I grinned.

"You make up too many rules," he grumbled.

I threw a flying kiss his way.

Zara walked towards us and took a place next to me. Max began to grin.
