• Max's POV •

It's been thirty days.

Thirty days since I destroyed anything and everything that my ex-best friend felt for me.

And I felt horrible.

But that doesn't mean I'll stop.

I need to stay away from her.

Far away.

As long as she hated me everything would be fine.

She couldn't get caught in all the crap going on in my life.

I stared back at the message on my phone.

It was from Isabelle.

Landon just visited.
I didn't even now he
was here. This is
freaking me out.

What?
How is this possible?

Do I look like I know?

Well, technically
I can't see you.

Stop joking Max.

I called her.

"Look," she started. "I didn't say anything major, but he knows your here. He wants to talk to you love,"

"Bloody hell, Bella." I cursed, rubbing my forehead with my free hand. "Why do they keep following me?"

"You know why."

"Maybe I should just kill them all," I said darkly.

"While I have supernatural faith in your right hook, I don't think that's the solution to this problem."

"I wouldn't even be in this mess if my bloody father hadn't made that stupid deal before he died."

"Neither would you have met me,"

I smiled. Meeting her had been one of the upsides of that disgusting city.

"I think our best option is to get out of here for a few days," Isabelle said, gravely.

"We can't keep running Bella. You know that."

"We're not running. We're laying low until the search is not as hot as it is now," she defended. "Then we can find Saxon and talk to him directly,"

"He's got a bloody bounty on my head and you want to talk to him?"

"Maybe we can negotiate,"

"He's going to kill us all!"

"Max don't lose your bloody head. We need to keep calm,"

"He almost got Riley and you want me to keep calm?" I shot back. "What if he comes for my family again? If we get out of here for a few days he just might do exactly that,"

There was silence over the phone.

"Bella?" I rasped.

"Shut it, I'm thinking."

I tried to calm my erratic heart.

I would be calm.

I would be cal-

I groaned. Who was I kidding. This was crazy. This was serious. I couldn't be calm now.

I deserve a little madness once in a while.

Later. Later I would switch back to normal Max. Boring. Asshole Max.

But not around Bella.

Around Bella I could breathe.

I could yell, scream, shout. Because she knew exactly what I was going through.

And she was smart. She could get me out.

I could tell her everything.

I could tell her anything.

"Alright, I know someone who can help with keeping your family safe." She started. "He has friends. They'll watch the house. As for us getting out we can use that as a tool to lead them away from here. We'll draw up tickets to New York-no that's too conspicuous. Let's say Ohio. You have enough and more from the stash to pay for that anyway."

"We're will we really be going?"

"Sri Lanka. School trip. By the time they figure out where we are, my sources would have found Saxon and we can get him," she breathed.

"God. This is why I love you. You know everything." I breathed.

Then I backtracked.

"Wait, Sri Lanka? As in the real trip? With the school?"

"Yeah, why?"

"We might be endangering our friends,"

I might be putting Bee in danger.

"No one's going to find out where we are, don't worry." She said. "Besides this is too important,"

Bee is way more important.

Well that was a surprising thought.

I wished I could tell Bella.

Make her understand why it was so difficult for me to do this.

I guess I can't tell her everything.

"I'm trusting you on this babe. No one should get hurt,"

"Everything is going to be fine."
