Hailey's POV

"So, are we going to meet the girlfriend today?" asked Sharon.

"Do you have to make it sound so dramatic?"

"She's a drama queen. It's in her blood, Lee." Tasha laughed.

I parked my car in the school's parking lot and we walked towards the main gates.

I really didn't know what my relationship with Max was. Yes, maybe I was still slightly pissed about his past mistakes, but he was back.

And he seemed sincere.

Cue utter confusion.

After waving goodbye to Tasha and Sharon I walked towards my History class. I was slightly late, so most of the seats had been taken. Damn, I hated being late, but with friends like Sharon and Tasha, I couldn't help myself.

Luckily the teacher hadn't showed up yet.

The only seat that was empty was beside a pretty brunette with blue eyes. I walked up to her and gave her a genuine smile.

"May I sit here?" I asked, politely.

"Sure." She replied, moving her bag from the seat, so that I could sit. I sat down and placed my bag next to my chair. I took out my history text book and placed in on the desk. All the while I was debating on whether or not I should speak to the girl next to me.

Would she be rude? Would she snap at me? What if she gives me a sarcastic reply?

This it hadn't even been twenty seconds since I had sat down and I could already feel a drop of perspiration at my forehead.

Why wasn't the teacher here yet?

After a few awkward seconds of mentally twiddling my thumbs, I took a deep breath and turned to her.

"So, what's your name?" I asked, giving her a hesitant smile.

She turned to me with a bright, warm smile. Her eyes twinkled with relief; as if she'd been summoning up the courage to speak to me as well.

"I'm Anna, short for Annabelle. I just transferred from England. Today's my first day—and from my inability to shut up, you can see that I'm really nervous. What's your name?" Her cheeks were red, but her eyes were earnest.

Her British accent made me smile. I loved all people with British accents. They just seemed so sophisticated and elegant yet at the same time warm and friendly.

Except for Max.

Okay well, maybe a little.

Maybe more than a little.

"I'm Lee, short for Hailey." I replied. Wait, she was new. And the only new one that I knew would be here, was Max's girl friend. And she was British.

So, was she, her?

I felt a sudden weird feeling at the pit of my stomach. It felt as if the acids that were technically supposed to be in there, were bubbling up and making some kind of chemical reaction inside my poor stomach.

Weird.

"Hailey. That's a lovely name." She said smiling, but suddenly her lips dip into a pretty frown. "Are you by any chance Hailey Th—"

But whatever she was going to say was drowned by a loud rap on the teachers table and an even louder shout.

"Attention everyone!" Came the booming voice of the teacher.

We turned to look at her.

"Well, since we our learning about the History of countries other than America, for the winter break we are going to take all of you on a trip." she said, smiling.
