Hailey's POV

"We will not let that girl ruin our party." Said Tasha, triumphantly.

"Yes, all for one and one for all!" shouted Sharon.

"Yea." I mumbled, sighing and gazing softly at the road ahead.

"She's going to pay for what she did to you. I hate her. She's such a-" started Sharon, but I interrupted her.

"Sharon no."

"C'mon, she deserves to be associated to the female species of-"

"No."

"Fine. It's horrible that you hate it when I curse."

"You're not cursing. You're insulting the female dog species." I say, rolling my eyes.

All of us burst out laughing.

We went into the house and found the boys already there. I just dashed inside avoiding Max's soul piercing glare. Sharon ordered pizza.

I tried to enjoy myself, I really did, but it was difficult. So difficult. Why couldn't I just forget?

But how can you forget the person who hurt you the most?

I got off the sofa that I'd been sitting on and went to grab another slice of pizza.

"We need to talk." Came a voice I knew all too well. I whipped my head around to see him corner me against the wall that was just behind me.

"About what?" I said, feigning innocence.

"You know what. What did you do to her?" he asked, quite calmly as if he knew how I was going to react.

And I bet I reacted just as he wanted me to.

"So you believe her." I said, barely audible. My eyes never left his—chin. I couldn't bare to look higher.  The music blasted away in the background, a pulsing throb in my forehead.

White hot anger coursed through my veins. But it was filled with jealousy too. Jealous that he would believe her so quickly. Jealous that he wasn't sweating as hard as I was.

Jealous that she would be so nice to him and not to me.

She had always been horrid to me.

Always.

Ever since Max left.

He moved forward. "Why wouldn't I believe her?"

Jealous that he would think that I would be the one to do something wrong and not her.

"You know what? Forget it." I said, anger curling in the pit of my stomach. If he thought I was capable of that kind of malice towards someone I loved, then he didn't know me at all.

He let out a frustrated sigh as he combed his fingers through his hair. "Bee." His hands were still in his hair. It looked silky. "You guys were best friends. We, we were best friends. Just because I left—"

"Oh Max, honey—if you actually think that when you come back everything is going to be exactly the same as you left, you've got another thing coming." My voice was shaking, there was truth mixed up in my hate. I knew I was throwing shade on him as a deflection strategy, but it was based off of truth.

"Look, I just want to know what happened." his eyes were like mist—calling me in. I looked away. Back to his chin. "All I want is the truth. D-did she do something to you? I-is that what you're not telling me?"
