I felt a grin slip onto my face as we entered the tent and final match. It was almost nine now and Max and I were going head to head in our last match. He was ahead by ten points. For the first time in history of bowling I was so close to beating Max. Ever since we started bowling he was always way ahead of me.
Boy was I excited.
It was Sharon's turn next. I silently laughed to myself. She had been sneaking looks and Richard the entire time. Alex had been playing with us too, but he stopped in between saying he was tired of mine and Max's competitive streak and took off with a blond named Zoe.
So it was Max, Me, Sharon and Richard, which is the order of our scores. Sharon bowled and scored nine points. Her final score was seventy-three. Next it was Richard. He wasn't that good at the game but managed to knock down four pins. His final score was forty-two.
Max was up next. He was ten whole points ahead of me. How in the world was I going to top that!
His forehead creased in concentration. He scrunched up his nose and took careful aim. He swung his arm and beautifully swept all ten bowling pins off their feet. He had got a strike! NO Way was I going to win now! He was twenty points ahead of me.
The cursor on the screen blinked. It was his turn once again. He once again drew up his brows in concentration, but he had become overconfident now. But he still managed to hit nine pins down.
His points lay at ninety nine now. Shoot!! I couldn't top that! He turned over and smirked at me.
I started muttering as I picked up the number nine bowling ball from its place. I wished all bad thoughts of strangling Max to go away as I carefully aimed at the middle pin.
I let my right arm fly as my right leg swept back, behind my left. The bowling ball launched itself on to the field knocking all ten pins down!
I clapped my hands together in joy, although I knew I couldn't beat Max.
I once more picked up the other number nine bowling bowl that had been sitting in its position awaiting my return and headed to try and knock another ten pins down. And I did!
But my happiness was short lived. My grin faded. I was only ninety. I needed another ten more to beat Max.
Two x's flashed on the screen as the bowling pins were once more set in place. Wait. Wasn't the game over now? The cursor still pointed at my name. I jumped up in glee.
"Wait, I can still play!?" I said surprised but happy. The rest of them looked at the board quizzically.
"I guess so." Said Max begrudgingly. But his smirk came back on.
"But even you're not that lucky." He chuckled.
He had a point. I frowned and headed back to collect my bowling ball which had rolled back up to its holder.
I picked it up and went towards the starting line. I drew my eyebrows in concentration and stuck my tongue out which was a habit as I took aim.
"Still sticks her tongue out huh?" said Max. My concentration broke as I drew my mouth in a straight line.
Was he trying to distract me?
I shook these thoughts away and took aim once again. I walked a little and swung my arm forward, my right leg crossing behind my left once again.
"Don't worry it looks hot on you." Came Max's voice, vibrating through my head and making my hand shake, as I let go of the bowling ball.
"NO!" I cried as the ball shakily headed towards the pins. I didn't bother looking at the pins fall down. I spun around to face Max.
