They were brown and caked in dirt. Some of them were missing fingers. Some of them were missing hands. But all were bare of skin and flesh. They clawed at the ground, trying to free themselves from their grave of soil.
Blue, Jenna and Ty stood back to back with their weapons raised. One of the skeletons tried to swing its rusted sword in the general direction of the trio, but before it could raise its arm Jenna shot a steel bolt right into its forehead, shattering its head completely.
"There's too many of them!" yelled Ty, while fending off two more of their skeletal attackers.
"Just hold on, I have an idea!" Blue called back.
He held out his sword and concentrated. He formed the familiar runes in his head. He repeated them in his mind until he felt a light, airy sensation come over his sword arm. All at once, he thrust his blade into the air and a massive shockwave of air blasted the skeletons back, even destroying some. He sheathed his blade.
"Quick!" he said to his companions, "Get to The City! They haven't been prepared for this and these people are gonna need all the help they can get!"
The three made a beeline straight for the gates of the city.
"Blue, can you please explain what's going on here!" called Ty, angrily.
"Well," began Blue, "It's said that every couple of centuries, the moon and the sub-moon align perfectly with the world, sending out some sort of energy that raises the dead. The City is usually prepared for this and can handle it quite well, but the people would of been caught off guard by this one"
"So, this happened a lot?" asked Jenna.
"Yeah. Anyway, here we are"
Thy stood in front of the massive wooden gates. Beyond them they could see guards and soldiers fighting off hordes of the undead. Ty pointed to a group of guards in very ornate armor.
"Wait, those are the Royal Guard!" he exclaimed.
"So that means that no-one is protecting the..." Blues voice trailed off as he looked on at the chaos that had ensued.
He turned to the other two. "We have to get to the Palace!"
Jenna tapped him on the shoulder. "Follow me," she told him, " I know some back routes"
