The first thing I hear when I woke up is a crying seven-month-old baby. Shhh, just one more minute...

I slowly open one eye to see my mom putting a happy Melody on the floor.

Melody is the cutest baby with her full head of black hair, big brown eyes and a button nose with chubby rosy cheeks. I notice my mother put her in a yellow Winnie the Pooh onesie I bought for her. Melody gasps as she slaps the ground and smiles clearly enjoying herself.

My eyes follow my mother who stands in front of my window. In each hand, she grabs a handful of my closed purple curtains to open the curtains up. I groan, "My eyes."

"Good morning sweetheart." She greets. I sit up and glare at her as she picks up Melody who's bouncing in her arms.

"Good morning, mother." I greet as I stretch my fatigue away. I get out of bed and slip my feet into my fluffy white slippers.

"Breakfast is ready." My mother informs me. "You better come down in ten minutes or else." Satisfied with my single nod she walks out of my room.

Walking into the dining room I plant a big kiss on my father's cheek as he drinks his coffee. "Buenos día mi Cielo," my father greets.

"Good morning dad," I say with a smile.

My mother looks at me from the stove and asks, "Are you hungry?"

I nod as I slip into my chair. As she gives me my plate filled with fluffy waffles she also hands a small plate of cut apples to Melody. Slamming her chubby hands onto the apples, my mother lightly scolds her. Melody gave her a grin showing off her two little front teeth. "Papa" she shouts as she tries giving my dad a drooly apple slice.

"Thank you mi corazón." He takes the apple and sets it down on a napkin. His eyes look at me as he drinks his coffee then suddenly he put the cup down, "Who's your date again?"

"Pa, I told you already that I don't have a date. It's just gonna be all of us together." I remind him for the fifth time this week.

He sighs deeply, "well I'm relieved to hear you aren't going with that boy."

"Who? Are you talking about Sebastian?" My mother says bringing him up. My father groans at the mere mention of his name.

"I don't like that boy. No me gusta!" He stubbornly says. My mother looks at my father and smiles. Her eyes always seem to gleam whenever she's with my father. When they think nobody's looking they stare at each other with a look of happiness and love. I always have admired that look. "I'd prefer Hector over that boy any day. A good boy who has great grades has great manners, and speaks perfect Spanish."

"But Hector is my friend." I remind him. My father motions me to come closer to him.

Leaning over a bit I hear him whisper, "Then stop being friends with him, and date him." He sits back and goes back to drinking his coffee.

"Sounds like you should marry Hector." My mother jokes.

"Oye lets not go to that extreme." My father clarifies, "I hold high esteem for that kid. Probably because he reminds me of me."

Getting up I excuse myself from this awkward conversation. "I'll be in my room,"

My dad gets up and looks at the newspaper that is on the island. "This conversation isn't over Serena." He says with a smile.

"Well, I'm off to the grocery store." My mom says as she hands my father a drooling Melody. "Take care of her."

"I know, mi amor." He kisses my mother goodbye. "Let's go watch TV with Papi." He cooed at Melody. Knowing my father will most likely pass out from just watching tv I decided to stay in the living room to keep them company.
