This day couldn't get any more annoying than it already is. It's just like the other day. Class after class, I have to sit here in the English class and listen to my teacher talking about the importance of literature.
I will say that the only good thing about this class is the fact that my three best friends are also here, so that makes it worthwhile.
However, today was different. I don't know why, but I felt like it felt different. My teacher announces she has to step out for something important and wants us to be on our best behavior. The moment the door closes behind her, everyone in class start talking and wasting time.
I roll my black pen across my messy desk in complete boredom. "Is it me, or has Orlando been more distant lately?" I hear my best friend Marisol ask out of the blue.
"It's just you, sweetie." I hear Diane reassure her. I turn my head to the left to look at both of my friends.
"Okay—he has been distant lately, and I will say it once more. I. Don't. Like. Him." I tell her the truth, unlike Diane.
"Serena!" Diane hisses. I rolled my eyes at her.
"Like I did not know that, Serena. Look, Orlando is kind to me. I love him, and I'm sure that he loves me." Marisol claims, but I didn't miss the hint of doubt in her voice when she said the last part.
"Okay, class today, we have a new student." I hear the teacher announce. Great, she's back. I turned my head slowly to look at the young teacher Mrs. Grant.
She fixes her brown pixie hair and pushes up her clear glasses that shield her hazel green eyes. Mrs. Grant always wears blazers to show off that she's professional and not one of us. Yet unlike the other teacher that I have, she wears blue jeans and sneakers. I'll admit that she's a pretty cool person but a sucky teacher.
With the whole boyfriend problems and a new kid, I zoned out. This is none of my business. "Oh, he's cute, Serena, look." Marisol pokes my arm and jerks her head towards the front of the class. As I look up, I see a tall, brown-haired guy with the greenest eyes I have ever seen. His red t-shirt clings tightly to his muscular arms, and those dark skinny jeans were a choice. He wanted attention on his fit body, and boy was he getting it.
I have to admit that this guy is pretty hot. "Serena, can you please stop ogling the new kid," Diane teases.
"I wasn't—"
"Aw look, Diane, she's blushing." Marisol interrupts me.
I glared at Marisol for pointing out the stupid coloring of my face. I put my head down and curse at myself for blushing easily.
"Why was Serena's face red?" I hear a deep voice ask. I looked up to look into a pair of brown eyes.
"What do you want, Adolfo?" Marisol asks, ignoring his question.
"I wanted to see how my girls are doing." By the little gleam in his eyes, I knew he wanted to annoy Diane. And boy, did he piss her off.
"What did you say, you little-" I place my hand on her upper arm to stop her from making a scene. "This isn't over," she warns. Adolfo shrugs the threat off. Diane and Adolfo often bicker like siblings, but I've gotten used to it by now. Changing the subject, I asked him if he's going to walk with us to the cafeteria.
"Can't, I have to go to my history class to turn in late homework." He answers.
"When don't you have to turn in late work." Diane jokingly said. He mocks a hurt look and turns around.
