Holding a basket of cookies tightly I take a deep breath in and knock on the dark wooden door. I hear footsteps coming closer to the door. The sound of the door creaking open catches my nervous attention. I look into those green eyes that belong to Marisol's mom. Who, on a different topic happens to be my godmother. "Hi, Madrina." I greet her. Her usual salt and pepper wavy hair are pulled into a low ponytail which only means she was either cooking or cleaning.
"Serena! Oh, how happy I am to see you again!" She happily greets. Her face breaks into a wide smile. I swear she's like a child whenever I'm near her. She opens her arms wide for me and I hug her softly. The warmth for her full figure dissolves all my nervousness. She lets me go, and her eyes move to the basket of cookies I have that rests on my waist. "I assume you're here for Marisol, and not me." She says still staring at the cookies. I smile at her.
"I wanted to check up on her," I tell her. My madrina nods and claps her hands.
"Come in then, I was just making dinner." She moved to the side to let me in. I walk into the Spanish style house and immediately a whiff of spices makes contact with my nostrils.
"It smells delicious," I tell her. She laughs and waves me off.
"Thank you," She giggles. "Marisol is in her bedroom but I'm guessing you already know that." She doesn't have to tell me where her room is since I've been in this house for years now.
Climbing up the stairs I hear my madrina shout, "And tell your mom to bring that cute little baby over here! I swear she's keeping you guys from me!" She laughs at the last part. I nod my head and continue climbing the stairs. I stop in front of a white wooden door and knock softly.
"Marisol?" I call her out. "It's me, Serena, I brought you cookies," I say trying to appease to her. The door opens slowly to reveal a messed up Marisol. Her mascara is running down her face, and her brown hair is all tangled.
"You said you had cookies?" She weakly asks. I nod my head slowly. She allows me access to her room. Once I come in I can feel depression sitting in the room with us. I sit down on her bed feeling a bit uncomfortable.
I hand her the cookies, and she gladly takes it. "Marisol, we are all worried about you." I start off. She stops eating the cookies and looks at me. "I know that he broke up with you, and you're allowed to grieve that relationship—"
"Oh, I'm not grieving that relationship." Marisol intersected.
"Then why are you mopping around for?" I ask her feeling confused.
"I'm grieving for me. At how stupid I was, and how I allowed this to happen." She explains. I go down to the floor where she's at and takes the bowl of cookies from her. "My cookies!" She shouts in protest.
"No, Marisol, those cookies are not important right now. You are important." I sternly say to her. "I can't sit here and listen to you say how stupid you are. If you really do believe that then maybe you are. Orlando's infidelity shows how big of a jack ass he is, not the other way around. He is an idiot from the moment he took his first breath and will be that with his last breath." I tell her feeling annoyed. I grab her hands in mine. "You are stronger than this, and I know that because we are practically sisters." Tears fall down my face. I quickly wipe them away. Damn, I was supposed to stop the waterworks, but I put them on full blast.
Marisol sobs on my shoulder as I hug her tightly. "Thank you," She whispers in my ear. After a full minute session of crying, we compose ourselves.
Marisol lays down and laughs. I look at her confused. "Why are you laughing?" I question her.
"Dante told me almost the same thing yesterday. Minus the sister part." She tells me. "You were the one who gave me that last push to get over Orlando." She says to me. She sits up and looks me in the eyes. "I don't want to be here crying. I want to look so good that Orlando will regret this." She sounded a bit evil at the end. I could imagine her in a witch costume casting a curse on that idiot. I laugh at her antics.
