I awoke with a good morning text from Hector. Smiling I happily get out of bed. "Look at Serena." My mother mutters to my dad as I walk into the dining room. My father looks up from a magazine to look at me.
"What's wrong with her?" He mutters back.
"I'm right here you know." I remind them. My mother nods and walks away to get a cup of coffee.
"What happened last night that made you so happy. Usually in the morning you really still aren't awake and in a bad mood." My dad asks.
"Nothing the carnival just brightened up my whole day," I say with a smile.
My mom places a cup of orange juice down and gives me a look, "something else happened and you don't wanna tell us?"
I glance at both of them, "Hector did confess his love for me." I confess.
"I knew it!" My mother exclaims as she grins.
My dad gasps, "are you joking?"
"No pa, he actually confessed that he loves me," I tell my dad.
My father suddenly breaks into a huge smile, "is it me or is this day beautiful."
"Dad are you okay?" I ask him. He buries his face in his hands, and his shoulders shake a bit. "Pa?" I say as I slowly get up to check on him. He suddenly pops his head back up and wipes a stray tear from his face.
"Dios has answered my prayers! Finally, the day has come!" He says with a wide grin. He looks at me sternly. "Don't let that boy escape us. Are you guys dating already? Dígame!" He asks me. I look at my mom feeling scared. This is not my father. He would just grunt, and continue drinking his coffee. His dark eyes stare at me waiting for an answer.
"I told him the truth which is I'm not ready for another relationship," I inform them. My dad grimaces at the mention that we're not dating. "But Hector told me that he's willing to wait for me," I add. My dad drinks his coffee with a look of content.
"That's good news." He seriously says. He went back to his normal composure. My mom and I stay there frozen in shock. "Let's eat before the food gets cold." He says bring us back to reality. My mom walks to her chair while giving me a thumbs up and winks. Chuckling I drink my juice.
"So it's already April...when are the acceptance letters from the college's coming?" My mom asks. I totally forgot about the letters.
"I don't know when but let me check my e-mail to see for the letter of acceptance or rejection," I respond. I get up and walk to the couch and look through my mail on my laptop. I then spot an email from a college in New York. "I got something!" I say excitedly. My mother quickly gets up and grabs Melody (who by the way was crawling around). She sat next to me with Melody in between her legs standing.
Melody looks at me and starts to babble. My mother grabs both her arms to steady her.
"Well..." She impatiently says. My father sits next to my mother. I nervously look at them. I open the email and read the content.
My smile drops, "I didn't get in."
My mother lets Melody crawl around and hugs me.
"Sweetheart, I'm sorry to hear that." She tries to comfort me."Well...I'm glad she didn't get in." My father adds. I look at him with a confused look.
"Alberto!" My mother scolds him.
"Qué? That means she won't have to go away." He defends.
"But dad I also applied to a college in San Francisco, Chicago, New Orleans, and Portland, " I remind him.
He covers his ears and shakes his head. I swear sometimes this grown man acts like a child. "I'm going to check the mail for the other college letters," I tell them as I get up.
