Drews POV:
I watched Barronè push Laurence to the ground and run out of the room. Each time he screamed my name it felt like a white hot needle piercing through my chest. I waited a moment to make sure Laurence was okay. After a minute he was sat up again and two minutes later he was up and out of the room, leading the search for Barronè.
I have an advantage they don't have. I think to myself that l want to see Barronè and the next moment l'm in the corridor and he's about to run through me. l duck out of the way and he speeds past, still screaming my name. l'm surprised that nobody other than our friends and Willow have tried to stop him yet, but it's night time now so there probably aren't as many nurses hanging around.
Barronè runs up a flight of stairs and turns right down a long, bright corridor. I run after him, calling him desperately hoping that he'll be able to hear me. He runs into an empty room "Drew! Where are you?" He calls out, panting, then sits against the wall in the corner of the room, eyes closed. The poor thing is clearly exhausted and afraid, he has no idea where he is or what's happening. I sit down next to him and put my arm around him. "l'm right here love." l whisper. Barronè jumps to his feet and looks around frantically. "D-Drew? Is that you?" He heard me! "Yes, Barronè! lt's me, l'm right here!" l tell him. Barronè doesn't react. What's going on? He definitely heard me a moment ago, why can't he hear me now? Unless...
l go over to him and put my hand on his. "Barronè. Please hear me." l say. He spins around to face me and l keep hold of his hand. "Drew!" He cries and wraps his arms around me. "Where did you come from, you weren't there a second ago!" How do l explain this to him? I don't want a reenactment of last time l showed up. "Let go of me a moment Barronè." l tell him. He frowns slightly does as I ask. As soon as l am out of his arms he gasps. "Drew? What's happening? Where are you?" He asked, scared. I grab hold of his hand again and he yelps. My theory was right; he can only see me if we're touching. It's a shame he can't see me all the time, but at least he didn't make everyone worry about him when he woke up again, by telling them that he could still see me. "What's happening Drew?" Barronè asks me, surprisingly calmly.
"Sit down and keep hold of my hand." I tell him. We sit snuggled on the floor of the dimly lit room. "What l'm about to tell you is going to sound crazy. You won't want to believe me, but l swear that every word is true. Promise me that you'll listen to everything l have to say before you do anything." Cyrus nodded and l began to explain the events of the last twelve hours.
l told him about our argument in the park and the horrible accident that stole my life. Barronè started to cry so l hugged him closer and continued my story. I explained how he had reacted to learning about my death and how our friends and his nurse had feared for his mental health. I told him absolutely everything that had happened and when l was done we were both crying quietly and clinging to one another. When our tears had slowed down and we were able to talk without breaking down into sobs again Barronè asks me "The car that h-hit you; was it green?" lt took me a moment to remember for myself, it all happened so fast. "Yeah. How did you- Oh my god Shane! You're remembering stuff!" He looked confused for a moment. "Shane...is me?" He asked and l nodded. "Shae Sumner. Wow! lt's all coming ba-" suddenly he stopped talking and his head dropped into my lap. Lucky l seem to have a solid body l guess. I sit there and stroke his hair, hoping that he'll wake up soon.
After only a couple of minutes he begins to stir. "Drew?" he says groggily.
"Shh baby, l'm here." l tell him.
"I remember everything." He tells me. "Oh god Drew, l remember everything." He brakes down into huge sobs. He looks up at me and his eyes widen in alarm. "Drew, what's happening, you're fading!" He gasps.
"Don't worry, even if you can't see me l'll be here. Remember, don't tell the others you can see me. l love you Barronè." I tell him all of this quickly because l don't know how long l have left until l disappear completely. "I love you too." Barronè tells me. I pull him as close as l can and we sit, cuddling, for about five minutes. Until l disappear.
