Drews POV:
I open my eyes and am blinded by the sudden rush of light. Whats happening? l try to sit up but find myself bound to a hospital bed. Whats happening? "Hello?" l call out. "Hello? Where am l?" l think l hear footsteps in a room nearby. "Hello?!" The door opens slowly and a familiar, but very unexpected, figure enters the room. l gasp, barely believing my eyes.
lt was Kurt Cobain.
"Aren't you-"
"Dead? Yeah." Suddenly the memories came flooding back to me.
"Shane!" l gasped, Kurt nodded slowly.
"That's right Drew."
l looked around frantically. "l can't be here. l can't! What happened?" l babbled, trying again to get out of my bed and again having no luck. "Calm down." Kurt says and l find myself relaxing almost instantly. "You've moved on Drew, You don't have a place on that planet anymore. l'm sorry."
"No, you're wrong! Barronè needs me! l have to go back." l struggled against the straps again and finally l'm free. I look down at the straps, or more accurately the place where the straps should be. They were gone.
stood up, ready to leave, before realising that l had no idea where l was going. l turned back to Kurt. "What's through that door?" l asked suspiciously. lf this is the afterlife, Heaven, Paradise, whatever you want to call it, then would going through that door lead me face to face with God? Or considering my sexual preferences, Satan? I've never been particularly religious, but what if l was wrong?
"Whatever you want." Kurt said simply, snapping me out of my daze.
"Anything?" l asked, not quite believing my ears. "Even-"
"Yes Drew, you can find Shane through that door, if that's what you really want." It was incredibly unnerving that he could read my thoughts like that.
"lt really is." l put my hand on the doorknob and began to leave. "Wait! l still don't understand why l came here. l was fine the way l was, helping Barronè come to terms with my death," lt was a lot easier to say that now, "Why did you pull me away from him?" l took a few steps away from the door, not ready to leave just yet.
"You'd done everything you needed to, you helped Barronè to remember. You were ready to move on from there. It was time for you to come to terms with your death yourself. Admit it, you were beginning to feel human again, weren't you?" I considered all of what Kurt had just said for a few moments before responding. One thing in particular drew my attention, "What do you mean "Feel Human?" lf l'm not human then what am l?"
"You're a lost heart."
"A lost heart?" l repeated, stunned.
"You seem confused."
"It's nothing. Just a weird coincidence l guess." l murmured still somewhat shocked.
"Are there really any coincidences Drew?" Kurt asked thoughtfully, ten walked strait past me and out of the room. Closing the door swiftly behind hi , not allowing me to catch a glimpse of what lay behind it.
l look once more around the bright room. There is nothing, not even a stray article of clothing, to distinguish it from any other hospital room. l was ready to leave, l walk to the door and this time l don't hesitate. l know exactly where l want this door to take me and I think Kurt knew too, before l had even figured it out for myself. l opened the door.
