Soon after Eren had completed the mural the weather started to get cooler. The fall and winter in Shiganshina were very cold but Eren didn't mind, he liked snow and considered it an expectable sacrifice to be cold for a few months. Levi though, hated the cold with a passion. He didn't even own winter clothing because he never went outside after the temperature had dropped to a certain degree. The only problem was that Eren was convinced that he needed warm clothing.

"What if you want to go to the library?" He asked.

"I will give you a list of what I want and you can get it," he said.

"Oh come on, you can't be that much of a house cat," Eren said sighing.

"Watch me," he responded bluntly.

Eren rolled his eyes and went to his room and grabbed an extra hoodie. When he came back he tossed the jacket to Levi.

"We're going shopping," Eren said to him.

Levi saw that there was no point in arguing. They drove to a nearby clothing store. Levi reluctantly aloud Eren to choose clothes for him to try on. Eren managed to get him to by a jacket, a couple long sleeve shirts and a beanie. He tried to get him snow boots but Levi refused flatly. He didn't like shoes at all and still didn't plan on going outside long enough to need them. He generally wore slip ons whenever he went out he felt that socks were confining.

They went home and Levi shut himself in the guest room. While Eren made dinner he wondered what was making Levi so upset. Did he really hate the clothes? They were all black, which was mostly Levi all ever wore so he didn't see the problem. Was he mad at Eren for something Eren hadn't realized? Eren shook his head in frustration and completed dinner.

Eren went to the door of the guest room and lightly tapped it.

"Hey Levi dinner is ready," he heard no response.

Levi eventually came out a few minutes later and they ate dinner in silence. The tension was so thick you could have cut it with a knife. Eren eventually couldn't stand it anymore.

"Are you okay?" He asked suddenly.

Levi was taken aback by this and just looked down at his food without responding.

"Did I do something wrong?" Eren urged on.

Levi's eyes widened at this. Eren just stared back waiting for an answer. Levi looked down at his food again and sighed.

"You...didn't do anything," he said.

"Then what's wrong?" Eren's eyes were full of concern and this frustrated Levi even more.

"Nothing."

"We both know that's a lie."

"I said it's nothing!" He said harshly but there was a lot pain in his voice.

"Levi," Eren reached over and put his hand on Levi's.

Levi looked away, Eren gripped his hand.

"Stop it," he muttered under his breath.

"What?"

"I said stop," Levi was visibly upset now.

He yanked away his hand from Eren's grip. Eren got up and rushed over to him on the other side of the table. Before Levi could turn away, Eren hugged him then he picked him up bridal style. Levi squirmed but didn't say anything. Eren sat him down on the couch.

"Levi, please tell me what's wrong," he asked fervently.

Levi didn't respond but maintained eye contact. He then brought his legs up to his chest.

"Stop being nice to me," he said quitely.

"Huh?"

"You keep trying to help me, trying to make sure I'm happy and comfortable, you buy me things I don't need and you treat me like a friend."

Eren was shocked and confused by this.

"What do you mean, you are my friend and why shouldn't I do those things for you?"

"It's just not right."

"Why?"

Levi paused. "No one has ever worried about me this much."

"What about Hanji and Erwin, and what about Isabel"

"Hanji and Erwin were always busy and left me to myself. Isabel was a kid she loved me but it's different with you."

"Different?"

"You stupidly go out of your way to make me happy."

"I don't think it's stupid."

"Tch."

"Hey," Eren put his hand on Levi's shoulder. "You matter to me, you are my friend and I will always be concerned and care about you."

Levi looked at Eren's hand on his shoulder, he sighed once more.

"You confuse me."

Eren chuckled at this and pulled Levi into another hug. Surprisingly Levi hugged back. And to his surprise, Levi felt genuinely happy.

A week later Eren's landlord, Shadis a military commander sent out an email informing all the residents that the central heating system was down. Eren was secretly happy he didn't come and tell him in person, Eren found the commander scary and thought his face looked like a baked potato. Eren told Levi the news with a big smile on his face.

"So..." Eren finished telling Levi the news.

"If you say I told you so, I will claw your face off," Levi threatened.

Eren laughed, he was finally going to use the clothes they had bought him.

"Wait, do you actually have claws... don't cats have retractable claws?" Eren asked.

Levi just smirked and studied his nails.

A few hours later the temperature dropped below comfortable. Eren was wearing a long sleeve shirt and a hoodie. Levi reluctantly put on his new shirt. He was curled into Eren as they laid on the couch trying to keep warm.

"Levi I can't fall asleep on the couch, I won't here my alarm in the morning and I have work tomorrow," Eren said to him.

Levi grumbled something inaudible, not appearing to have any intention of moving. Eren sighed and picked up Levi again.

"What are you doing?" Levi asked in a deep, tired voice.

"Keeping you warm silly," Eren said setting Levi on his bed.

"Stop carrying me, it's embarrassing," Eren laughed, then noticed he wasn't opposed to the idea of sleeping in the same bed as him, maybe he just didn't want to be cold.

"I might, you are surprisingly heavy," Eren said joining Levi on the opposite side of the bed.

Levi mumbled something and started to shiver. Eren moved over to him and hugged him, leaning against his back, draping his arm over him making sure to cover Levi as much as he could. Levi stopped shivering soon after and they both fell asleep, comfortable and warm.
