I woke up this morning with a huge head ache.
I checked my phone and saw a text From Angie:
Leyah can you please pick up the cake at 2? And can you help me set up the party?
Okay, it's 10:43. I put on sweatpants and fixed my hair before I brushed my teeth.
I headed out to the house and once I got there believe me I was anxious.
I walked up to the door and knocked on it.
"Hey" Angie opened the door.
"Hey, is anybody home?" Was all I could say.
"No, Cameron went to get the piñata with Jacob and your dad with to work he'll come back later"
What a coincidence.
"I got your text" I said putting my stuff down. "Give me the receipt for the cake please"
"Oh yeah I almost forgot" she walked away.
"Leyah while your waiting, can you set up the table this style?" She showed me a picture. "I need to go pick up the food from your Aunt's houses" she said getting her stuff.
"Okay" I smiled. "I'll take care of Layla"
"Okay thanks bye" she closed the door behind her.
I walked off and and started setting the table.
It was so quiet until I heard the door bell ring.
I walked inside and opened the door to the most handsome guy ever.
Cameron.
"Leyah?" He said in shock.
"Hi Cameron" I said awkwardly.
"So, can I come in?"
"Oh right sorry" I opened the door more. I always do that.
He had a piñata in his strong arms and I couldn't help but stare.
He looked at me and chuckled. "What?"
"Um, where's Jacob?" I said trying to change the subject even though I already knew.
"Errands with our-your dad"
Things got way more awkward after that.
"So, did you miss me?" Cameron asked smirking.
"Conceded much?"
"Yea and? But just answer me, you missed me?"
"I would have expected a 'how's college going for you Leyah?' Or 'house the new house going living alone?' "
"Come on Leyah, answer the question"
Before I could think or say anything we were interrupted with Layla crying.
I walked inside and walked upstairs to see nail polish all over the night stand.
"Please don't tell mom" Layla cried out trying to clean it.
"Hey, it's okay. I'll clean it up"
"Please don't tell"
"I won't. And don't cry on your birthday" I laughed.
She looked at me with anger as I laughed.
"It's not funny"
"Hey go outside, the bouncy house is here. Ask Cameron to turn it on"
"Okay, I'll ask my brother"
My smile faded. "Brother?"
"Yeah, Cameron is our brother. That's what mom said."
"Right...our brother"
She walked out and I started cleaning the mess up with nail polish remover and paper towels.
----------
"Okay Angie everything is ready to go" I closed the slide door walking into the kitchen where she was.
"Thanks Leyah for helping" she smiled.
"You're welcome. I'm going home to get ready I'll see you later"
"Okay be safe"
"Wait" I stopped my tracks. "I was talking to Layla earlier and she called Cameron her brother"
"Yeah that's what they are aren't they?"
"Well yeah but-"
"Leyah" she paused looking at her surroundings to make sure no one was here. "I know this is awkward. But you have to face reality. If you don't have feelings for Cameron this will never be weird and awkward."
"Well yeah but we were something in the past. I know we've never dated but we really liked each other"
"Yeah but that's the past. You can't keep bringing up something that was already brought up. It was brought up for a reason in the past. It won't be brought back only if you want it to"
She actually made a point. Which got me thinking as I went home to get ready.
If I don't have feelings for Cameron, nothing won't be awkward.
But what if I still do?
Too late now, so might as well talk to him and just be friends.
I mean it wouldn't hurt to 'just' be 'friends'
Just friends...
