I began to awaken with a startle. I tried to lift upwards but winched in pain. The blankets were soft and the air was cool. I felt at ease but something wasn't right. I gently opened my eyes; the lights burning my eyes. I turned my head and observed the whole place. It was a nice little apartment that looked clean and stable. I swung my legs over the side of the bed and stretched. It hurt and felt good at the same time. I moved towards the edge of the bed, steadying myself to stand. Just as I was about to stand a nurse rushed into the room. This wasn't a hospital, why was she here? "Now now, we don't want to rush things." She calmly said as she laid me back and move my legs back into bed. "You need rest, we don't want to move to quickly." Her voice was peaceful with a side or anxiety. I steadied my breathing and began to relax. My throat was dry but I was still trying to talk. "Where am i?" I hoarsely ask. She looks at me with worry filled eyes. "You said this is where you wanted to live, Levi. Since you don't have a place in America, we showed you pictures and you picked this one." She looks concerned, but I don't remember her or this place. Hell, I don't even remember what happened to me. "Where am i?" I ask abruptly. "I just told you.." I cut her off sharply. "No, you said I was in America. Why am I here? Where in America am i?" I anxiously ask these questions. Her eyes widen and she looks concerned. "Levi can you tell me what year it is?" She sounded calm but I could see in her eyes she wasnt. "Yea, sure. It's 2008. But that's irrelevant to.." She interrupted me before I could finish. "Oh god.." Her eyes went soft and began to water. Or was she crying? I couldn't tell but panic filled me. She left the room and came back shortly with a phone up to her ear. "Yes, it's a code black. I repeat code black." She rung up the phone and walked over to me. "Can you tell me how old you are, dear?" Why was she asking me irrelevant questions? "Yea I'm 12" I say. Why was she being so ignorant. She is making me state obvious facts. "Where is my mum and dad?" I ask anxious. Her tears began to fall faster and whimpers began to escape her mouth. I was beyond confused. What was I missing? Why was she upset? And more importantly, where is my mum and dad? Why am I in America? Was this some sort of sick joke? Before I could finish my thoughts, there was a knock on the door. The woman walked calmly and opened it. A doctor walked in, rushed. He sat down his bag next to my bed and began digging through it. "I'm going to ask you a series of questions and I want you to answer honestly, okay Levi?"his voice was deep and raspy, almost to the point where I couldn't hear him. ""Okay" I reply, uneasy. "What is your name?" "Levi" why was I being asked irrelevant questions? "How old are you and where are you?" Uh.. I just answered this. "I'm 12 and I'm apparently somewhere in America." I'm confused but answer anyways. "Where is your mom and dad, levi?" "Back in the UK at my house, I'm assuming; since they aren't here." Concern filled his eyes. "Am I missing something?" I ask, scared of the answer. "Levi, I'm sorry to tell you this but.. It seems you have suffered terrible brain damage.. You have lost some memory. How much? I'm not for sure. It seems you have lost the last 5 years of your life.." He turns his head and grabs his bag and stands up. "I will give you some time to process this.." He walks out of the room followed by the nurse. I was left alone, my head whirling. I lost memory from the last five years? What the hell happened to me..
