“So what are your plans for today?”
“Well I plan on going to school then finding out what’s going on with Mitchell. How about you?”
“Well I am going to go to school also but I’m going to look for a job after school.”
“Oh that’s cool. I have to go in and talk to Mary, my boss, today or tomorrow.”
He just nodded and went to take a shower. I got dressed in comfy black sweats, a light blue tank, and my light blue converse. After about ten minutes, Frankie came out of the shower. I could not help but stare at his toned chest as it glistened with water droplets.
“Hun, you can stop staring now.”
“Huh? What? I was not staring.”
“Okay, whatever you say.”
Finally after what seemed like forever, we were on our way to school. We saw Dusty, Torie, Mitch, and another guy all talking. We walked up to them and at first they didn’t notice us but as soon as I nudged Torie, they noticed.
“Hey guys,” Frankie said.
“Hey,” they all replied.
“Oh hey guys, I want to introduce you to Will,” Mitch said.
“Hey! Nice to meet you. Are you new here?” I asked.
“Oh umm no actually, I have lived here for about a year. I have seen you guys around but I just kinda fade into the background.”
“Oh, I’m sorry I didn’t mean to embarrass you.”
“Oh no it’s cool.”
I just nodded, still kind of embarrassed. Frankie took my hand and rubbed this thumb over it. I think he was trying to get me to cool down. To my amazement, it was working.
“Well it was nice meeting you all but I have to get to my locker and then head to class. I will see you guys after school okay?”
We all nodded. I whispered something to Frankie and he nodded.
“Umm, Mitch can I talk to you for a minute?”
“Oh sure Ellie, what’s up?”
“Well, I have just noticed that you haven’t really been yourself lately. But then yesterday you were just fine and really happy. I was just wondering if there was something wrong.”
“Well I have just been doing a lot of thinking and self assessing. I have been trying to figure out who I am.”
“Oh okay. Well just so you know I am here for you.”
He was silent for a few minutes. So I started to gather my stuff to leave. I threw my backpack on my shoulder and started to walk away but halted because…
“I think I am gay,” he blurted.
I turned around and stared at him. Did I really hear what he just said? Hmm, now that he said that, it kind of makes sense.
“What? Really?”
“Yeah, I am just not really attracted to women. I have known this for about a week or so. I was just afraid to tell anyone because of what they might say.”
“Oh Mitch, I completely support you. I know Torie will too but the guys are something I don’t know about. So who do you like?”
“Will,” he mumbled.
“Oh really sweetie, that’s great. He is pretty cute.”
“I know, right?”
“Well we should get back to the guys before they start to get crazy ideas.”
He just nodded. The guys were where we left them about five minutes ago. I knew that Torie would support Mitch but I was really unsure about Frankie and Dusty. We never really talked about it.
“Hey guys, I have something I would like to tell you,” Mitch said.
Frankie, Dusty, and Torie all nodded.
“I’m…I’m gay.”
