*three months later*

“Can you believe prom is so close now? It seems like only yesterday we were freshman talking about senior prom,” Torie said.

I just shook my head. We were sitting in the library for our English class.

“When do you want to go dress shopping?” she asked.

“Well I was thinking next week after my birthday because I will have a little bit more money then.”

“Don’t you have money from your job?”

“I am not working enough. I need to talk to Mary when she returns from vacation.”

“So what are your plans for your birthday?”

“I really don’t have any at the moment. I really don’t want to do anything.”

“What? It’s your 18th birthday. You have to do something.”

“Girls, let’s start moving those pencils instead of your mouths,” Mrs. Shipley said.

We turned towards our desks and quickly finished the assignment. I grabbed the papers and turned them in.

“Anyway what color prom dress are you thinking?”

“Umm I am not really sure. What about you?”

“I am thinking blue. You should do a red or a purple. Those would look great on you.”

“Well we will just have to see what stands out to me when we go shopping.”

Torie just nodded and took her phone out of her pocket. I knew she was going to start texting Dusty so I laid my head on the table and took a little nap.

*a week later*

Once again we were sitting in the library and talking about my birthday.

“So tell me what you did for your birthday.”

*flashback*

I had arrived home from school and was walking up the stairs to my apartment when I realized I had left something in the car. I walked back down to the car and grabbed my English book. I walked back upstairs and into the apartment. When I walked in, I didn’t see Frankie anywhere. I set my stuff down in the living room and then I heard some soft music playing from the bedroom area. I walked back towards the bedroom and saw a little table with candles and a small cake in the middle. I looked around and still didn’t see Frankie so I walked towards the table. Sitting next to the cake was a card. I picked up the card and opened it…

Ellie

I hope you have the most wonderful birthday ever. Know that I love you very much. Happy birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love Frankie

I set the card back on the table and turned around. Frankie stood there in nothing but whipped cream that formed happy bday. You can get the picture from there.

*end flashback*

“Well that sounds very exciting. Although I now have the image of Frankie and whipped cream and it’s not very pretty.”

“What’s not pretty?” Dusty asked as we met in the hallway.

“Oh E was telling me about her birthday and what Frankie did for her.”

“Oh you mean the whipped cream?”

Torie just nodded. I knew that the mental picture was coming back and she didn’t like it one bit.

“Okay can we move onto the next topic please?”

“Dress shopping tomorrow at three.”

She nodded and walked off to her next class.

*next afternoon*

“All right where should we try first?”

“Let’s try…here,” she said yanking me in to some store.

After two hours of trying on dresses and shoes, we finally had the ones we wanted. I ended up getting a burgundy colored dress while Torie got a deep blue. They were gorgeous and we ended up getting the same shoes, black pumps.

“I am so excited. Now I can’t wait for prom.”

“Oh my god, you sound like those horrid cheerleaders so please stop.”

“Ugg fine. Ruin my fun.”

“Damn straight.”
