Frankie’s mother met us at the door. She took one side of Frankie while I took the other. We led him over to the couch and sat him down. I closed the front door and put all the bags in the bedroom.
“Well I did laundry for you and made something for dinner. Did you talk to the police today?”
“Yes we did. They said they would keep us informed but you never know.”
“Well I hope they catch the son of a bitch that did this.”
We just nodded. There really wasn’t much to say.
“I am going to head home. If there is anything you need, don’t hesitate to call. Love you.”
“Love you too mom.”
Once Frankie’s mom had left I heated up the dinner she made and ate quietly with Frankie. Once he ate something, he drifted off to sleep. I decided I would fold the laundry and put it all away.
“Ellie where are you?”
“I am in the bedroom. Do you need something?”
“A glass of water, if it wouldn’t be too much trouble.”
“No of course not, be right there.”
I came out to the living room and got Frankie his glass of water. Once again he went to sleep.
*a few days later*
The past couple days have gone by in a blur. I have been busy with school and taking care of Frankie, who should hopefully be back in school next week. We had spoken to the detectives a couple times and I think they were going to stop by again today. They needed to clear some stuff up.
“Frankie, I’m home.”
“Hey sweetie, how was school?”
I just shrugged my shoulders and set my bag down in the living room. I want over to hug Frankie and after I stood up there was a knock on the door. Standing on the other side was Detectives Lopez and Franklin.
“Hello Mr. Johnsen, Miss Dunham. How are we doing today?”
“Fine thank you.”
“Well we came here today to clean up some loose confusing ends.”
We just nodded. This had to be tied with something Amy said. I could feel it in my gut.
“When we interviewed Miss Woods, she had an interesting story to tell.”
*flashback interview room*
“Thank you for coming down Miss Woods.”
“You’re welcome. What is this about?”
“Well it seems a young man was beaten severely and he named you as one of the voices he heard after the attack was over.”
“Well as sad as that sounds, I do not know of anyone being beaten, much less me being there.”
“To be honest Miss Woods, the victim has identified your voice from a recording we have.”
“Let me guess, the victim in your case in Frankie Johnsen.”
“Yes, that would be correct.”
“I thought so. You see, Frankie and I dated awhile back and it was going great. Then all of a sudden things started to change. He got angry a lot and almost hit me a couple times. While we were at school one day, I found out that he was cheating on me with Ellie Dunham. He then had the guts to make up some lies and had her beat me up. Needless to say, I feared for my life and had to transfer schools.”
“What does that have to do with Mr. Johnsen being beaten?”
“Well I found myself a better man and when I told him of my past, he got really angry and set out for Frankie. I tried to stop him but he wouldn’t listen. I followed him and he stopped at some office building. I continued to follow him and that’s when I found him over Frankie. I yelled at him to stop but he just wouldn’t. Finally I think he got tired and stopped.”
“How did he find Mr. Johnsen? How did he know where he worked?”
“I have no clue. I didn’t know where Frankie worked at, let alone he worked at all.”
“Well we need the name of the man who attacked Frankie, so we can question him about this.”
“Umm, his name is Brayden Scott.”
“Thank you Miss Woods. We will be in touch.”
*end flashback*
“Oh my god, that bitch. She can’t leave well enough alone. Can she?”
“What do you mean Miss Dunham?”
“Well Frankie and Amy never technically dated. He had a crush on her and she took it to the extreme. When we started dating, she spread vicious rumors that split us up. Then she tried to take him back while saying shit behind his back. I confronted her and when she called me names, I dare not repeat, I hit her again and again. I was suspended and when I came back she was gone.”
“Is that when you learned she had transferred schools?”
“Yes, it was.”
“I see. Is this all true Mr. Johnsen?”
Frankie just nodded. I think he was in shock of what he just learned.
“I think she may have learned where I worked by eavesdropping,” Frankie said.
“All right, thank you for clearing things up. We will be in contact.”
I so pissed that I didn’t even notice Frankie getting up and walking over to me.
“Don’t worry babe,” he said wrapping his arms around me. “Everything will be all right in the end. As long as we are together and we know the truth that is all that matters.”
“I love you.”
“I love you too. Now shut up and kiss me.”
