Recap:

“Ellie is that you?”

My head shot up to meet Frankie’s confused eyes.

“Yes Frankie, I am here.”

I rushed to get him a glass of water so he could wet his throat. After he took a couple sips, he set it aside.

“What happened? Where am I?

“Well you are at St. Christian’s hospital. You were ambushed at work and basically got the shit kicked out of you.”

“Oh so that explains why I am in pain.”

“Yes Mr. Johnsen. You were really beat up.”

“Hello, I am Dr. Drummond. How are you feeling?”

Well I am in pain but other than that, I am all right.”

“That’s good.”

“Well you need to rest. I will check on you in the morning.”

Frankie nodded his head and looked back at me. Once the doctor left the room, Frankie kind of had this confused thinking look in his face.

“What?”

“I’m trying to remember the whole incident.”

“Okay well I will try and help you.”

He just nodded. I went out to the nurses’ station and asked for a piece of paper and a pen. When I came back Frankie looked ready to talk. And boy did he, for the next hour. I sat there writing down everything that Frankie said.

“Do you want to call the police?”

“Yes, I really wouldn’t wish this on anyone else.”

I nodded. That made sense. He still couldn’t picture the guy who attacked him but he could most likely identify the voices. He said he knew the female voice from somewhere but couldn’t figure out where. Finally about 12 or so, Frankie fell asleep.

*the next am*

I woke up about nine. Frankie wasn’t far behind me. Today we were going to deal with the police. After I talked to the nurse, the doctor walked into the room. He stayed for about five minutes then moved on to his other patients.

“Are you ready to deal with the police today?”

“Yeah. I may be in pain but I just want them to find his asshole and do whatever it is they do.”

We were silent for about ten minutes when Frankie scared the living daylights out of me by yelling.

“Amy. That female voice was Amy.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes. She spent enough time fawning over me while we were mad at one another.”

I was about to answer when the police detectives came into the room. Frankie told them exactly what he told me, but adding in that the female voice belonged to Amy Woods.

“Well Mr. Johnsen, we will look into Miss Woods and keep you updated.”

“Thank you detectives.”

After the detectives left, the doctor came in and told Frankie that if he felt well enough, he could head home today.

“Are you ready?”

Frankie nodded. I wheeled him down to where I parked my car in front of the hospital. Frankie’s mom had taken Frankie’s car back to the apartment and was waiting to see Frankie. I could tell that he was ready to head home. Finally about twenty minutes later, I was helping Frankie him up the stairs and into the apartment.

“Welcome home sweetie.”
