The next day felt really long. We hadn’t told anyone about what had happened yesterday. We wanted to be sure about everything before we told anyone anything. Finally school was over. I rushed to my locker and threw everything into my bag. I raced to my car and drove hurriedly to the paternity place.
“Are you ready?” I asked pulling into the parking lot.
He just nodded and grabbed my hand. We walked into the building to see Amy and baby mama holding a cute little boy.
“I am surprised you guys actually showed up.”
“I just want to get this over with so we can move on with our lives.”
They just kind of laughed and I tensed up. Frankie knew what I wanted to do so he pulled me into a hug. I heard them groan and I gave him a tiny kiss.
“Smith, Johnsen.”
We walked back into a hallway where we followed a nurse to a room. I was starting to get nervous and I have no idea why. Oh yeah, my fiancée is getting a paternity test for a baby.
“Umm, how long should it take to get the results?”
“Oh just about an hour or so.”
(AN: I know that’s not a realistic time but I don’t want to drag it out for however long it actually takes.)
The nurse swabbed baby Cole, as I came to learn, and then swabbed Frankie.
“All right if you would like to return to the waiting room. I will come get you when I have the results ready.”
We all nodded and headed back towards the waiting room.
FF: 1 hour->
“Smith, Johnsen,” the same nurse called out.
Frankie grabbed my hand and I just tensed up. I thought I was ready to hear the results but I don’t know that I am. Frankie seemed to know what I was thinking and he just tightened his grip on my hand.
“Mr. Johnsen…you are…not the father.”
