Ameenah
I lied in bed the next morning long after hearing my alarm go off. Just packing up my things and moving across the country was something I didn't want to do. Especially moving in with family that I had never met before. Taking a deep breath, I prepared to get up. I knew it wouldn't being before my father came barging in here to yell at me.
Rolling over in bed, I planted my feet in the purple plush rug. Doing a small step, I made my way to the bathroom to what I know would be a long and dreadful day. After brushing my teeth, I washed up quickly not wanting to take forever. I didn't understand why my parents made my flight so early when there was private jet they used to get from place to place.
Stepping out of the shower, I threw my shower cap on the counter and dried off. Deciding on a pair of ripped boyfriend jeans and a simple black spaghetti strap crop top, I optioned my skinI topped it off with a green jacket because I knew the airport could get really cold. Sliding on my beige pumas, I checked myself in the mirror.
I grabbed my black bag and threw my phone, charger, wallet and other things I might need in it. After making sure everything was accounted for, I made my way downstairs with a few bags. Leaving my things by the front door, I went back for the rest of my things.
After I was finished bringing everything down I made my way to the kitchen. My mom was nowhere in sight; I didn't trust that hoe ass maid.
"Thought I was going to have to come and get you, its almost five thirty so lets go" my dad said taking a sip of what I assumed was coffee. He finished and left his cup in its place and walked out.
"Where's mom?" I asked wondering where she was.
"Sleeping, lets go" he said walking out the front door. I saw his driver walk in and grab my bags taking them outside. I didn't know how long they planned on leaving me there or if they planned on visiting. So even though she annoyed me all the time I wanted to say bye to my mom before I left. I ran up the stairs and walked to my parents room and knocked the door.
After getting no response I walked in and saw the bed was empty but the light to the bathroom was on and the door was slightly open."Mom, I'm leaving. Just wanted to say bye" I said pushing the door open. My mom was sitting in front of her mirror putting on makeup. She had a slightly black eye and her lip was busted.
"Ameenah, what do you need" she said still applying her makeup as if it was nothing.
"Did dad do that?" I asked walking closer to her.
"Don't worry about that" she snapped looking at me.
"Are you going to be okay?" I asked referring to her bruised face. I knew my dad could get angry and aggressive at time but I didn't know he would put his hands on my mom like that.
"Mind your business Ameenah, you just go to Cali" she said pushing me towards the door. I gave her one last look and ran out the room making my way downstairs through the back steps that led to the kitchen. I grabbed a bottle of water from the kitchen and a banana before walking out the front door. I got in the car closing the door behind me. I looked over and saw my dad looking at me.
"What took you so long?" He asked.
"I was looking for something to eat but just decided on a banana" I said holding up the water bottle and banana so he could see. I looked at my father differently now after this morning. He wasn't entirely the good man I thought he was if he did that to my mother and lied about it. I took my headphones and phone out my bag putting on some music as we made our way to the airport. I leaned against the window as India Arie's Ready For Love played in my ear.
'I am ready for love
Why are you hiding from me
I'd quickly give my freedom
To be held in your captivityI am ready for love
All of the joy and the pain
And all the time that it takes
Just to stay in your good graceLately I've been thinking
Maybe you're not ready for me
Maybe you think I need to learn maturity..'______________
