"Besides the tattoo, I remember a ring, a class ring" I said opening my eyes.
"Ok that's good, a class ring could lead us to what school he attends or attended. Do you remember the details of the ring"
"He kept sending blows to my face when I tried screaming for help afterwards. It a silver ring with a--" I shook my head getting frustrated about the details I couldn't remember.
"Listen, don't beat yourself up about this. You remember this detail means you might remember another piece that can help put them behind bars, snowball remember?" She reminded me making me nodded my head.
"If it's too much we can try again tomorrow but it's better when we have the information as soon as you remember in order to ensure your memory hasn't been influeneced"
"No I can do this" I said closing my eyes again.
Jesse
"Why that nigga always smiling in your face?" I asked Ameenah as I pulled into the driveway of her grandmothers house. I saw her mother waiting with luggage near her car.
"Jesse, you really need to stop feeling like every guy I have a conversation with wants me" she laughed but instantly stopped when she looked up and saw her mother.
"You good?" I asked wondering why she got quiet.
"Yeah don't leave yet, I'll be back" she said getting out the car leaving her bag and her phone. I watched as she walked up to her mother and began speaking. It didn't take long for them to start arguing and her mother suddenly back handed her. I quickly hopped out my car and ran up to them.
"Ameenah you ok?" I asked helping her up. I tried help her bout her mother blocked my way.
"She thinks she's grown so she could help herself up. This is my daughter so I can handle her how I want. You need to get back in your car and leave now"
Ameenah stood back up and I noticed blood on her lip.
"Jesse I'm fine" She reassured me putting a small smile on her face.
"Ameenah get in the car, our flight leaves in a little bit" her mother said as she clicked a button on her keys making the trunk pop open. She placed the luggage in there before slamming it back shut.
"Mom I want to stay here, Mama Nita has no problem keeping me. I can fly over on breaks and summer vacation" Ameenah argued stepping away from the car.
"You knew that damn lady for a few months. Every damn woman that comes around you, you latch on to. I'm your mother not anybody else!" Her mother yelled.
"Mom please, I love it here" Ameenah pleaded.
"Leave you here so you could get pregnant by this" she said in disgust looking in my direction. I looked around and down the block to see who she was talking to.
"Ma'am I've never disrespected you in any type of way so I would appreciate it if you would give me some respect in return" I said finally not caring.
"You disrespect me with you presence everytime you come around. You've done nothing but corrupt my daughter since she's been down here"
"You're the one that sent her away, now you want to take her back because your plan didn't work" I shot back getting annoyed. I know it wasn't my place but every time I'm in her presence she pisses me off.
"Mom I'm not leaving, I found a job and Mama Nita is willing to help support me. I can go through the process of getting emancipated but we don't have to just. Just let me be happy here, you and I both know dad doesn't want me around him. All he's going to do is ignoring me and hit on me when he feels disrespected" Ameenah spoke up throwing me off. I didn't know her father put his hands on her. I didn't like that nigga one bit but always held my tongue because that was her father.
"Your father loves you, he just didn't have the best upbringing so it's hard for him"
"Who are you trying to convince, you and I both know that's not true. I'm suppose to just sit around and be his punching bag because he had a messed up upbringing" Ameenah said getting louder.
"News flash my upbringing wasn't the best either, you and dad threw money in my face like that was suppose to make me happy. I just wanted my parents love and attention, but clearly those are two things y'all can't afford to forgive"
"Ameenah, that stupid maid put things in your head and turned you against us"
"Who? Corrinne? Actually she did the opposite, while I was convinced you guys didn't care about me or love me, she was telling me otherwise." Ameenah said instantly getting defensive. Corrinne was truly someone who meant a lot to her.
"Well I'm glad she left, I needed my child back"
"She left? You told me she died" Ameenah frowned.
"Left, died same thing. I don't even know why I'm having a discussion with a child"
"Mom is Corrinne really dead or did you lie to me?" Ameenah questioned stepping away from her mother. From the look on her mothers face, I could tell she had been keeping some things away from her.
All these secrets they were keeping were snowballing into one dangerous Avalanche.
