I hopped of the plane, ready to be home again. I walked thought the terminal and to the baggage claim to find Aria and Jacob standing there with a piece of paper with my name on it. They were acting like chauffeurs. I ran up to Aria and hugged her tight. I didn't tell her about my aunt yet. I hugged Jacob too and we all went to get my bag.
We leave the airport. It's noon, so we go to lunch. I let them pick. Ironically, they pick the diner Ashton took me to the day we met. I don't say anything, though. We begin eating and I decide to tell them the news.
"Well, I had some bad news." I start.
"You aren't moving are you?!" Aria yells.
"No I'm not. It won't affect you guys much. My Aunt Mary is sick. She's the only real family I've got left and I may go back to Connecticut at the end of the month for a week." I say and they nod.
"What is she sick with?" Aria asks.
"Lung Cancer." I answer.
"Alright. Well, we're here for you if you need us." Jacob says.
"Yeah, don't worry. I'll be alright." I say.
We finish our meal in quiet and slow conversation. Then they drop me off at my apartment. I walk through to the couch and lay on it face down. It's been a long week and it's only Wednesday. I have to find something to do at the coffee house Friday. I call Dan.
"Rachel! How are you holding?" He asks.
"I'm alright. I have an idea for Friday. I want to do a writers night for creative writing. I'll make flyers. Sound good?" I ask.
"Perfect. See you later then?" He asks.
"Yeah. I'll be in soon." I say and hang up the phone.
I take my stuff down to the laundry room and bump into my landlord along the way.
"Hey! Where have you been?" He asks.
"Oh I had to visit my Aunt. She's sick and went to a nursing home." I answer.
"Well best of wishes. I kept close eye on your apartment while you were gone. I wanted to make sure nothing happened to it. Make sure no one broke into it." He says and looks at me funny.
"Yeah...well thank you. I have laundry to do." I say and turn, but he stops me again.
"Would you like to have dinner sometime?" He asks.
"How old are you?"
"Twenty-six."
"I'm twenty-one. You know this, right?"
"Yeah. You're just really pretty and I finally got the nerve to ask you out."
"Um, alright. I have to go into work later to set something up. Maybe when I get back?" I say.
"Perfect. See you then." He says and walks to his own apartment.
I just got a date! Oh my god. My eyes widen as I stick my clothes in the washer. I boost myself on top of it after I put my change in and think. I got a date with the landlord, who now I should probably call by his real name! Alright, so I got a date with Cole Samson. Lets see how I do.
