Chapter One ~ In Some Trouble
I walked slowly down the winding pathway with my wings closed and my head low. I had a smirk on my face to show that I was not sorry for what I had done. I approached the pale white temple slowly and ascended up the walkway into the Wise Elder Dragons temple. I walked towards them and took a seat on the cold hard ground. There was really no getting out of it this time. The look on all of their faces was priceless, yet below the anger in their features, there was pure disappointment. Disappointment because of me, because I am not at all what they want me to be. I'm not a dragon princess, well technically I am, but I don't act like one.
"Ekiria, what were you thinking!" Jazix said. She was the only female wise dragon there ever was. I blew out a puff of smoke and continued my silence in their presence. The Elders were clearly fuming, literally. Smoke was dribbling out of those noses with each breath they took, and by the looks of it they weren't steady.
"No future Great Dragon should be behaving with such recklessness!" Ith, the newest Elder there was. My ears perked up at his words, maybe they wouldn't allow me to be a Great Dragon? Oh what a joy that would be! To finally be free! But alas, freedom is too much to wish for here, considering what I am. Freedom is but another dream engraved into the fabric of my mind, and one of which will never become reality.
"Calm yourself Ith, my brother. She is young, it is in her blood to be rebellious." Said Lythe, the oldest dragon in the realm, and he was the most respected, for obvious reasons I would like to think. It was said in stories that Lythe helped break off the two worlds to separate the dragons and the humans. His beaten down dark green scales showed that he had been through many battles. And his markings where the markings of the wise. All dragons bear a mark, a mark which they receive on the day of the marking. Where the orb of dragons chooses the markings of each dragon in the realm, bearing them with adulthood and respect from the rest of us. I of course, do not have my mark yet. It does not matter your age, but your actions tell the time. So basically until the Elders deem you worthy to become an adult.
My ears perked up once again at what Lythe had said. I'm young am I? If a deal older than most of the younglings who have already received their mark, and yet I do not have mine. Interesting to think of me as young. Perhaps they just see me as foolish. I'm pretty sure Jazix noticed my reaction to Lythe's words and she opened her mouth to speak. Of course, the female always opens her mouth to defend them.
"Yes my youngling, we do realize you haven't gotten your mark yet, it's all in due time." She said. I looked at myself in the Reflecting Water below their perches on the Rocks of Everglow, at my sleek white scales in the water. My eyes roamed to the rest of my body, I had the same scales, the same wings, and the same tail as every other dragon my age in the realm. The only thing different about me was my eyes. One was a dark purple and the other was a bright blue. The Elders have always been suspicious because of them. Blue is the color of hope, and purple was the color of darkness. Maybe that's why I haven't gotten my mark yet, because of the way I was born.
"We have known since you were laid and hatched that you would become bothersome," Said Ith. As for his appearance, I could easily see him as a hot shot when he was young. His pale yellow scales were still somewhat shiny, and his wings looked as if they did not belong on an elders body.
"It is just because of what you are." Jazix explained. I stared at her with extreme disbelief. She has the nerve to tell me this, and not explain to me exactly what I am? Her light violet scales had almost drained in color, and her wings had many scales missing. Her marks were the marks of beauty... Maybe she was more breathtaking when she was young. Of course, most dragons lose their looks as they grow older.
"We have hope for you Ekiria. You are not all darkness. There is much hope." Lythe said with much power in his tone, yet there was a small sense of comfort emitting from his features. Where did darkness come from? I didn't realize that darkness meant the same as foolish.
"We did not want you to feel different than any other dragon in your studies Ekiria. You are no different from anyone else." Lythe spoke.
"No disrespect Lythe sir, but that's a lie. I am different. No one treats me the same as every other dragon... And they don't even know what I am! If they knew what I was, then they would ignored even more than they do. I'm on my own all day everyday." I just let it all out. It's true... Every word. I turned around so my back was facing all three of them. "Please excuse me OH WISE DRAGONS." I hissed those last few words and quickly walked out of the temple. I opened my wings and took to the air. If I would have stayed maybe they would've told me exactly what I was.. but it's too late now. Im not even sure I want to know.
I flew and flew and flew until I reached my 'home'. The trees were closely knit together, so I didn't have any unwanted eyes overlooking my home. My wings slowly stopped as I landed infringing of my cave. I crawled inside and lit the fire in the middle of the small cave. My dragon fire was dark purple... Just as my eye... There was a few dead rabbits in the corner of the cave and sighed as I stuck them in my mouth and swallowed them whole. After I had finished the rabbit, I crawled over to the corner with the smooth rocks laid out into a nest like shape. I blew a ring of fire into the rocks to heat them up, then quickly laid on them before they grew cold. There was going to be a storm tonight, and I could feel it in my scales that it was going to be pretty bad. Every inch of me was rattling.
I put out the fire and slowly closed my eyes. The rain began to lightly fall outside, and I fell into a light slumber listening to the rain fall to the ground outside. With every drop of rain hitting the gentle earth below it, that's how I fell asleep. Alone, here in the forest.
