Chapter Twenty-Three
I walked through the green dew covered grass, towards the lake. As I approached it, I looked into my reflection, to see the same human face as before with minor changes. By my eyes, were three small tear drop shaped scars, and my eyes looked so sorrowful. Is this really the path I will choose? Can I not just be normal? I mean, sure I'm a 'great dragon' but can I not just be a 'normal human'?
"So, you're back huh?" I turned around to see the familiar boy standing behind me. I smiled and ran up to him, and just hugged him.
"I keep forgetting that the human world time goes much slower. It must have seemed longer for me than it was for you." I whispered in his ear. He chuckled.
"Don't worry, I'm perfectly fine. It seemed to take years for you to come back, but in reality it was only about a day."
I sighed and looked up into his brown eyes, searching for something even I didn't know what it was.
"Nice tattoos you've got there, I'm guessing you did the whole great dragon thing?" He asked.
"Yeah. It's the mark of hope. I don't think it fits me very well." I let go of Jeremy, and sat back down on the soft grass, wrapping my arms around my legs.
"You listen here," Jeremy took a seat in front of me, and places his hands on mine. "When I first met you, I thought you were the most beautiful creature I had ever seen before. You were mesmerizing, and I couldn't help but feel that I had to have you. Like you were meant to be mine. Before I met you, I was always the downer who was working all the time. I never had time to hang out. It was like being caught in a sea of my own emotion, and I could see my friends on an island calling out to me, but I could never reach them no matter how much I tried. But then you came along, and you were like a boat who rescued me out from that sea, you were my hope. You deserve every one of those tears, because you are the strongest person I know." He reached his hand up to cradle my face, and he brushed my cheek with his thumb. "I couldn't ask for more." He began leaning in, so I leaned in as well. Our lips met and it felt so natural. Just to have him touch my skin, it was amazing.
He pulled away smiling, and left me there with an expression of a sad puppy, which caused him to giggle and peck me gently on the lips once more.
"I wish to give you something." I said quietly. Now was the time to ask. "Would you like to be a dragon Jeremy?" I blurted out. I closed my eyes, scared to see his reaction.
"If it means I can spend even more time with you, then of course."
                              •••
"Okay, are you ready?" I asked him.
"Ready as I'll ever be." He smiled at me.
"Okay, close you eyes and relax." He did as I told him, and laid down of the grass, and shut his eyes.
My hand went to his heart, and I began chanting the spell. His body began to shake, and I started chanting faster and faster. Finally his body began to change.
I stepped back and shut my eyes, and a small breeze blew past me. When I opened my eyes I looked up and saw a dark green dragon in front of me. His scales were dark green, and his underbelly a yellowish green color. His eyes were the same brown color as before, and his wings were the same color as his body. Before I did anything else, I switched into my dragon, and stepped towards the lifeless body.
I ran my claw over the rough scales, and he began to move. Before anything else happened, there was a blinding white light, and I shielded my eyes from it. When Iooked again, Jeremy was laying on the ground as a human. It didn't work.
I switched back to human form and walked up to him. His eyes fluttered open and he looked up at me. I helped him sit up and we sat for quite a bit, not saying anything. Finally, he spoke up.
                              "It didn't work, did it?
"No, and I don't want to try again."
"It's okay, it was fun while it lasted... What did I look like?"
"You had green scales.. Your eyes were the same.. And your wings were green too."
"I bet I looked awesome." I laughed at his childness.
"I'm sorry I couldn't get it to work. I swear I thought I could do it but then you were in pain and you just morphed back and I just failed so much at doing it that I don't think I c--"
He cut me off with a kiss. It sent sparks flying through my body, and I kissed him back. He pulled away and he had the biggest smile on his face. I'm pretty sure my face was red.. really red.
"It doesn't matter. All that matters is that we're together. And want to know something?" His eyes sparkled with his words.
                              "Yeah?"
                              "I love you."
                              "I love you too."
