Chapter Eight ~ Getting to Know Each Other.

"Hey, you okay in there?" Jeremy said from the other side of the door. I was now in the corner with my head on my knees. I stood up from where I was and opened the door. "Okay, you were in there for a while and I was beginning to get kind of worried..."

"Thank you... For everything. I am forever in your debt, and I am eternally grateful." I said to him with a weak smile. He nodded and smiled back, taking the wet clothes from my hand he put them in a basket and we went back downstairs.

"What happened out there with Etan?" He asked. I looked away from him and shook my head.

"He kissed me... It is something that is forbidden and he should know that." I said darkly.

"Forbidden? Why is it forbidden? It was just a kiss." I sighed at his words an turned back around to look at him. We were standing at the bottom of the stairs and he was leaning against the railing.

"Where I am from, we get our mates chosen for us at a young age. My mate has already been chosen, and it it forbidden to mate with another dr- uh.. Person. It is also forbidden to do anything that consists or leads to mating with another person." I slowly explained to Jeremy.

"Mate? So basically you're already betrothed to some other guy?"he asked. I nodded. He stood up straight and walked over and sat down on the sofa, then he motioned me over. I followed his footsteps and sat down next to him.

We were silent for a few minutes, and Jeremy and a look of deep thought running across his features. He finally looked up and me and half smiled.

"I hope you're okay... Who is this mate of yours?" He said casually as he leaned back on the sofa.

"It is kind of strange... Do you remember how I mentioned my friend Raziel?" I asked. He nodded and I continued, "Well, my mate is Raziel... Which out of every other uh.. Person.. I would want it to be Raz, because well, he is pretty much the only living being that ever really cared about me. He is always looking out for me and he is my best friend."

"Oh... It's not... Awkward between you two at all? I mean.. Having your best friend as a uh.. Mate?" I shook my head.

We continued talking about each other and each others lives and what not for quite some time. Jeremy seemed like a very simple kind of human... He is 24 years old, which means he is only two years older than me in human years... I guess Etan was correct, human years move much slower than the dragon realm spins.

Jeremy was a very interesting person.. I learned that he was in school to become a healer... Or a doctor.. As what the humans say. I didn't tell him too much, I only told him certain things that wouldn't give away too much about my true self...

All in all, today seemed all right. It was very nice and relaxing and surprising...
