Chapter Four ~ The Human World

I looked around at the white blanket of snow that was covering the ground and all the trees. There was a small lake that was frozen over with trees surrounding it, so I decided to land there so I could take my human form.

I landed on the cold snow covered ground and I smiled. I quickly and easily transformed into a human, a technique that I have been working on for many spins to come, and was quite pleased that I did not have any dragon parts sticking out of my body. I walked over to the lake and looked at my reflection in the ice. I say, this form suits me quite well.

I had short black hair that was styled very choppy, it reminded me of a hedge hog... But it had light blue and dark purple streaks in it. It would suffice for now... My skin was a ghostly white, probably because I had white scales, and I had few marks on my cheeks close to my eyes that were about a shade darker than my skin itself. I think I read in a book somewhere that they were called freakies? Freles? Freckles! There we go... They are called freckles.

I looked at my eyes to see if they had changed color at all, but nope. They were the same shades of purple and blue as the colors in my hair and the color of my eyes when I was a dragon. Another thing I remembered from the books was that humans wore drape things called clothes that went over their bare skin. I looked down at my body and noticed that I already had 'clothes' on...

A normal human usually had on pants, which go on the legs; a shirt, which covered the torso; and shoes, which go on your 'feet'. I had all three of these things on... And it felt strangely unusual to be wearing something that covered my body. Dragons don't wear things like this...

I was wearing a blue shirt that covered my arms and black pants that were hugging my legs. On my each of my feet I had a dark purple shoe on it...

I looked back at my reflection and studied my features some more. I had a very slim build... Which can't be too good for things could it?

I stood up from the lake and looked around. There was a small house nearby, surrounded by more trees and brush. I began to slowly walk over to the house, but I heard a thump fall on the ground nearby. I quickly turned around to see another human laying in the snow. He began to stir and stood up and wiped the snow off of him. He was obviously a male human, he had a tall build, but he was still pretty scrawny.

He stopped wiping the snow off himself and looked up. When he saw me he kind of just stood there for a moment before speaking.

"Umm hi?" He said. He sounded confused. I looked around to see exactly who he was talking to before he said, "I'm talking to you... You don't seem like you're from around here... My name is Jeremy." He began to walk towards me and stopped just about a foot away. He held out his hand and I just stared at it.

"Umm... Welcome to Colorado?" He said it in a tone in which sounded more than a question than a statement.

"Thank you. My name is Ekiria." I said. I smiled at him, remembering the social interaction chapter in a book back home...

"Ekiria? That's an unusual name... Yet, it's very pretty. Aren't you freezing?" He asked. I noticed he was wearing a thicker shirt that looked like it was keeping him warm. I looked down at what I was wearing, and I noticed how thin it was. But I wasn't cold... That's the thing.

"Not at all. It's beautiful out here..." I said. He chuckled and put his hands in his pockets, then leaned against the tree he fell from. "Why were you up in that tree?"

"Oh... I always go up there and take a nap once in a while." He said. I sighed with relief. At least he didn't see me as a dragon...

"That's interesting. You are a very fascinating person Jeremy. And you remind me a lot of my friend Raziel..." I stated the truth. He looked like a human version of Raz almost. He has the same caring eyes, yet his were more of a hazel and Raz's are dark brown. And he seems to almost have the same personality as Raz, at least what I know about him so far...

"Raziel? Where exactly did you say you're from? You two have the most unusual names... I've never heard them, or anything like them..."

I grew nervous... What's a place that our names were native to? "Um.. Well that is normal names where I am from. No one has the same name and another. My name is unique." I said. He looked at me confused at first, but I guess he just assumed my lie was the truth.

"Well... Do you have a place to stay?" He asked me. I furrowed my brow at his words. This was something I hadn't thought of..

"I suppose I will just find a nice cave to stay in for the night... Do you know of any small caves nearby?" I asked. His face was masked with a mixture of confusion and shock. It took me a moment to realize what I had said that caused it. Wait... Humans don't live in caves... They live in those houses that seem to be in a line and surrounding the small field with the lake and all the trees.

"You're joking right?" He finally asked. I snapped out of my thoughts and looked at him again. But I stayed quiet. I wasn't exactly joking... "Oh... Well... If you have no place to stay, my sister is out of town right now. So you could stay at my place if you want to. I know it sounds really weird coming from someone that you just met, but ya' know... Still"

"No, it's fine. A cave will work perfectly. But, is there one nearby?" I asked. He looked at me the same way again and just shook his head. I sighed. "Well it was nice talking to you, but I really need to find a cave.. It was nice to meet you." I said as I turned around and started walking away, he grabbed my arm, I instinctively grabbed his hand and twisted it as I pushed him to the ground.

His face looked impressed as I let him go and he slowly stood back up. I glared at him in annoyance, but deep down I had a feeling that I wanted to make sure he was alright. "That's very impressive coming from a girl as skinny as you." He said. I scoffed at his words and rolled my eyes.

"I'm a lot tougher than I look, for reasons that you shouldn't need to know." I said.

"Well, it is very impressive. But I stopped you because I can't let you sleep in a cave... Whatever happened to southern hospitality? You can stay at my place for as long as you like." He said.

"I appreciate it, but I would not mean to intrude, and I think a cave would be more-" he cut me off.

"I don't really care... You are not staying in a cave... You are going to be staying with me and that's a final word on this." He said. I sighed and nodded. How bad could one night be?
