Alex's POV;
"Alright ladies!" Jill's familiar voice pangs, disrupting the girls from their conversations. "Welcome back, again, it's always wonderful to see you all," A small grin appears on her face. "I'm expecting one hell of a World Cup out of you all, so that means you all have to give me 100% in every practice"
The whole time Jill is talking, Alex is floating in and out of her words. She steals glances of her girlfriend from across the pitch more often than she knows she should, but it's not like she can help it.
Suddenly, Alex sees everyone around her scrambling and has no idea what the task at hand is.
Tobin jogs past her and Alex grabs her arm, yanking her backwards causing the older girl to stumble.
"What are we doing?" Alex whispers, as Tobin laughs.
"We're running" Tobin says in between laughs.
Alex simply nods back and the pair begin to jog around the pitch.
None of this seemed real to the young striker. She felt as though she would wake up any second back home in Portland. Days ago, it was just her and her girlfriend, now it'll be months of the whole USWNT together, 24/7. Don't get her wrong, the forward loved her teammates and she loved her team. But lately, all she can focus on is Tobin. She's infatuated with everything about the older girl.
She wasn't sure how long she was running for, her thoughts overtaking any other action she was doing.
"Okay guys, get a partner" Jill rocks back and forth on her feet.
Alex's eyes immediately search for Tobin, and she smiles when she sees Tobin did the same.
The midfielder gives her a nod of approval as Alex darts over to her.
The pair do their normal, playful, routine, following the instructions at the bare minimum as possible.
The younger girl watches her girlfriend in awe as she shows off her incredible footwork. Captivated by every move done by the midfielder.
"Pay attention next time, if that was a game you would have made a fool of yourself, superstar" Tobin's raspy voice chuckles at her as Alex feels the ball hit her right on the hip and then roll away.
"I can't help it, you're quite distracting" Alex kicks the ball back to her and even through the midfielder's flushed cheeks from the heat, she can see her blushing.
Tobin flicks the ball back to her as Alex raises her leg to hit it with her knee.
All at once, a sharp pain erupts suddenly from her knee, causing the striker to grab it in an attempt to subside some of the pain.
She feels herself collapse to the ground, her eyes tightly shut.
Tobin's familiar touch is now felt on her face, moving stray hairs out of the younger girl's face.
"Alex, are you okay?!" Tobin asks, her playful tone now replaced with a serious one.
Alex tries to muster up words, but she can't. Nothing comes out. She can now feel tears rolling down her face.
She feels her head being propped up on something and she opens her eyes to see Tobin hovering above her.
Her face is of pure shock & fear, she's never seen Tobin this frightened before.
The midfielder moves the strands of hair out of her own face as she rests her hands on her hips.
Alex feels her leg being moved and she screams out of instinct.
