Alex's POV;
"Okay girls, here's our starting 11 today" Jill's voice pangs, holding up a whiteboard with the starter's positions and names on it.
Alex was a bit hurt her name wasn't on the starting list, but she felt guilty complaining. She worked hard all club season and all training camp, and to her she felt like she improved incredibly. However, obviously not enough.
The team slowly vacates the locker room, while Alex sits in her locker pondering her thoughts.
"Hey superstar" Tobin's arms fold over her chest and she flashes a weak smile to the striker.
Alex's features immediately perk up at the older girl's presence.
"Hi Tobs," Alex grins, resting her head against the locker wall and meeting the midfielder's gaze. "Congrats on starting today"
"Thanks, I wish you were out there with me" Tobin fiddles with her hands nervously, looking down at her feet.
"Me too. It's whatever though" Alex sighs, shaking her head and shutting her eyes.
Alex and Tobin make their way out of the locker room and after what felt like centuries, the match began against Australia. It was incredibly frustrating for the striker to sit on the bench and not be able to do anything to help change the game. They were down by 1, but just as Alex's anger was building, Rapinoe subsides it with a goal. Celebration erupts across the stadium. Halftime passes by in a flash and Alex remains relatively quiet, keeping short responses with everyone who tried to engage in conversation, including Tobin.
After halftime, Tobin joins Pinoe on the score sheet. A 2-1 victory to begin The World Cup was not bad at all, and Alex immediately couldn't wait to congratulate the midfielder for playing all 90 minutes and scoring a goal.
Tobin avoided Alex slightly and Alex was confused by the older girl's cold shoulder. But she guesses she kind of deserved it for being short at halftime. Everyone had their stuff together and were leaving the locker room beaming with joy.
Alex wasn't sure what was holding her girlfriend up, so she turns around to look for the midfielder.
Her heart drops immediately and she regrets turning around.
"Oh my God," Her jaw drops to the floor at the sight of her girlfriend pinned up against Kelley in the locker room, those lips that so tenderly kissed her own now roaming across the defender's neck. "What the Hell?!" She screams.
Tobin's head turns to look at her, her face in pure shock.
"Alex!" She yells, and the striker immediately backs up from the older girl and starts sprinting from her.
"Alex!" Tobin shouts again from behind her.
"Alex," This time her voice is quiet and everything around the younger girl is spinning. "Alex"
"Alex" Tobin says again, and Alex's eyes open and she sees the older girl's face infront of her own, smiling slightly.
Alex lets out a long sigh of relief at the fact that what just happened was only a dream.
Instinctually, the striker grabs Tobin's face and presses her lips against the older girls roughly.
"Goodmorning to you too," Tobin chuckles when Alex breaks the kiss.
"We should be landing in about 20 minutes" Tobin informs her and Alex nods.
