Chapter 2

*Niall's P.O.V.*

"This cannot be happening. Shit," I say running my hands through my hair.

I was on my way to Janelle's house when my car broke down. And to make things worse, my phone died so there's no way for me to call for help or tell people that I was going to be late. I was already a half hour late for my own welcome back home party. I can't afford to disappoint anyone, especially Janelle.

Looks like I have to hitchhike. Wow, never thought I would have to do this in my life. I look down the road, and I see a car making it's way toward me. I stick my thumb out, but retrieve my hand back to shade my eyes because I think I know the driver.

"Mr. Evergreen?" I ask.

*Janelle's P.O.V.*

"Mom, are we expecting any more people?" I asked my mom as we both walk over to the door.

"I don't think so. Why don't you check who it is?"

"Alright." I sure hope that is Niall, if not then the next time I see him it will not be pretty. I nervously walk over towards the door, open it, and see no one.

"Hello?" Nothing.

"Hello?" I ask again. "Mom nobody's he-"

"BOO!" Being the wimp that I am, I scream and close my eyes. I hear a man laughing, and I know that laugh. I've been hearing it for the past 17 years of my life. I open my eyes, and see my dad holding onto his stomach.

"Thanks, dad," I say crossing my arms. "I just embarrassed myself in front of everybody here."

"I love you too, honey," he says regathering himself.

"I thought you were coming back from your business trip tomorrow?"

"Well I finished things up early and my boss said I could come home early. Besides I wouldn't miss Niall's welcome back home party," he says smiling.

"If he really is coming," I grumbly say.

"Oh, he's not here yet?"

"No and he hasn't even bothered to call anybody to tell us if he's really coming or not."

"Well how about I just come in and we can wait for him."

"Everybody has already been waiting for over an hour, dad, and it's getting pretty late," I say closing the door behind him and checking the wall clock in our living room. It's already 9 p.m.

"Don't give up yet honey. Besides I have a present for you," he says going over to my mom's side.
