6: First Day of School (PART 2)

JAMIE POV
After fourth period, it was time for lunch and I found out that I have first and third period with Rachel and first and second period with Anna. I also found out... That I have first and fourth period with Jimin. I also have Taehyung for third period and Jungkook for second period. The other so-called 'Bangtan' members have yet to have showed up in my classes. It is now lunch time and I am walking with Anna, since her fourth period class is down the hall from mine, to the canteen. There, we saw Rachel already waiting for us at a table so we quickly got our food and sat down.

"So what's your next class Jamie?" Rachel asked.

"Spanish 1." I replied and her eyes lit up.

"Us too!" She said and that made me feel better.

"Thank goodness! I didn't want to be alone." I said and they laughed.

"Bangtan is in that class too. There is Jhope, Jimin, and Suga." She said. I nodded.

"What's the big deal about Bangtan anyway?" I asked because she seemed to talk a lot about them.

"They are basically the school leaders. They became popular through their abilities. They are known to be good at a lot of things and they're handsome." She said.

"So? A lot of guys are handsome and a lot of girls are pretty. That shouldn't necessarily make them popular." I said.

"They also have a strong image." She said. "Oh! Your tryouts are in sixth period! Are you nervous?" She asked.

"A little." I said but she shook her head.

"Don't be! You will do fine. I have a feeling that you will make it." She said, while giving me a wink. I thanked her.

"Jamie, Rachel and I will try to get out of class for a couple of minutes to go support you so don't worry okay?" Anna said and I thanked them. With that, we finished eating and went to Spanish class together. When we walked in, I sat next to them in the back. Then, we watched as the other students came in. Soon enough, a boy sat down in the vacant seat next to me. I turned to see who it was.

"Hey, you're the new chick right? I'm Minho, the CAPTAIN of the basketball team." He said, holding out his hand. I turned to see if Rachel and Anna were seeing this and when I looked at them, I saw that they had widened eyes. I turned back around and shook his hand.

"Hey, I'm Jamie." I said shortly. Then, I let go of his hand and quickly turned back around. With that, Rachel leaned in and whispered,

"I think he might like you." She said. I looked at her.

"No he doesn't. He doesn't even know me." I said. She shrugged and we sat through the rest of Spanish in silence.

"Good luck!" Rachel and Anna said as we walked out of Spanish class. "We will be there as soon as possible!" They finished. I nodded and we went our separate ways. My heart started to beat faster. You can do this Jamie. I walked to the dance room where I saw the rest of the team. I got even more nervous as they watched me move towards them. Then, I walked to the teacher and I bowed.

"Hello, my name is Jamie and I was told that I could tryout for the dance team today?" I said. The teacher looked at me.

"Okay, well get ready then. Your tryout starts in five minutes." He said. I nodded and went to the locker room to change. When I did, I stretched and went back outside. There, I saw Rachel and Anna standing and waving at me excitedly from the back as the rest of the team sat on the floor. The teacher called me up and I was put in the center of the room.

"Okay you will have to do a freestyle dance for whatever song I give you. You get one shot. Good luck!" He said. I nodded and took a deep breath. Fighting Kim Jamie! With that, the teacher turned on the stereo and I immediately focused on picking up the beat. When I did, I broke out in pops and waves as the crowd followed me with their eyes. Their glares were really intimidating me. I saw that Chelsea and her group had widened eyes, Jimin looked at me with an impressed expression with his eye brow raised, the other Bangtan members looked surprised, the teacher stared me down like a hawk, and the others nodded their head in approval. Meanwhile, Rachel and Anna looked at me with their mouths opened. I ignored the attention as I continued to do my best. Then, the song suddenly changed into a slow song and I tried my best to show my flexibility. I was trained to dance every kind of dance and I have been dancing since I was able to walk. It was moments like these where I was proud to have had my experience. I did turns and smooth movements as I kicked my leg up, doing a high kick split. Then, the song changed once more into Girl's Generation's 'Catch Me If You Can' chorus and thanks to my old school's tendency to dance to Kpop songs, I danced to it perfectly. When I was done, the music stopped and I breathed heavily. Rachel and Anna gave me the proudest smiles and gave me a thumbs up. Then, the team clapped and I faced the teacher. He looked down at his clipboard as he evaluated me.

"What kind of dance do you do?" He asked, not looking up from his clipboard.

"I can do just about every dance sir." I said. He looked up.

"How long have you been dancing?" He asked.

"Ever since I was able to walk sir." I answered. He wrote some notes down on his clipboard.

"Practice with the team for today. I will watch how you keep up and give you an official answer tomorrow."  He finished.

"Yes sir." I said. With that, he told me to get some water so I bowed and walked to the locker room. There, Rachel and Anna greeted me with hugs.

"You were AMAZING! You are the best girl dancer I have ever seen!" Rachel said.

"That was ridiculously good I was not expecting for you to be THAT good." Anna said. I laughed.

"Thanks guys." I said. I hugged them once more before they went back to their sixth period classes. When they left, I quickly drank water and went back out to see that the team was huddled up while the teacher was sitting in the corner, watching me. I scurried to the group and listened as Jimin spoke as captain.

"Okay guys championships are in a few months so we have to prepare. We have a few competitions before so that we will be warmed up. Also, in the championships, there will be multiple dances. There will be one dance with all of us and three other dances which are partner dances. The top dancers will be chosen for those dances so get your body together and work hard if you want that spot. There are six spots and I am the only person right now who is in it for sure so work hard. Let's do good guys." He said and everyone nodded their heads.

"Okay, let's warm up and practice. Today, we will be covering multiple hip hop dances, so keep up." He said. With that, everyone went into position and I went to the back and followed along as they moved. I was pleased with myself as I followed along and I felt the teacher's eyes on me. Still, I pulled through the entire practice and soon enough, the bell rang. With that, I went into the locker room and changed. When I was done, I was about to walk out, but I heard a voice.

"Jamie?" Chelsea asked with two other girls behind her. I turned to them.

"Yeah?" I replied. Chelsea looked at me from head to toe again.

"If you don't make it, don't take it personally. The teacher is really picky about the dancers." She said. Shouldn't she be supporting me, not bringing me down? I smiled at her.

"Thanks for the heads up." I said. With that, I walked away but before I left, I heard her say,

"She thinks she is so good since she is from New York and stuff. She just wants attention." She said. I rolled my eyes. Look who's talking. I ignored the rest of their conversation and walked out. Then, I saw Rachel and Anna and they asked if I wanted to go out to eat.

"Sorry guys but I can't today. I'll go another time." I said. They pouted but nodded. Then, I said goodbye to them and walked home. On the way, I saw Jimin walking with his friends, so I quickly walked another way to avoid any contact with them. When I made it to the front of my house, I took a deep breath. That wasn't so bad of a day. With that, I unlocked the door and walked in.
