Hello everyone who made it past chapter one xD thanks to all of you again for reading

This chapter is gonna introduce a lot of the mechanics I'm gonna use in my book so pay attention ^^ hope the difference from the regular stories is refreshing :)

---------------- Start chapter 1----------------

I woke up in the bed that I had woken up in so many times before. But still, it felt strange. Wait no, that didn't matter... Flipsyde was over and I had 3 months of fun ahead of me.

Wait wait wait!!! For those of you who don't know what flipsyde is, it's a program that was introduced 28 years ago. The story goes like this...

A group of researchers at MIT were able to make a huge leap in energy production using dark matter, creating a virtually inexhaustible source of energy. This allowed humans to shift focus to other issues such as global peace and poverty..

As the prosperity of the people grew and the lines between nations blurred, we slowly grew to spread over the entire world. One race, living almost the same level of life, as one giant family. Then it all collapsed...

Studies started to show a deteriorating condition of the earth's resources- trees, soil, nutrient cycles- You name it, it was suffering..

Of course this was due to our sudden growth.. If we simply went back to our previous lifestyle, it would all go away.. But could we? After living that prosperous life, how could we go back to our state before this.. A realization occurred that for one man to prosper, another must suffer.. That realization.. was the basis for Flipsyde

Flipsyde was a program aimed at helping everyone enjoy this prosperity, and yet contribute to saving the planet.. Society was divided into cities (the area surrounding a city would be considered as the city itself) with each city divided into two halves. One rich, one poor. The rich would be able to live their lives as it is, while the poor would get nothing.. This would go on for 3 months following which, a surge of power from this giant Flipsyde machine would switch the lives of  every person in the rich section with their corresponding person- their "flip"- in the other section..

Each pair of "flips" would completely switch lives.. Of course their bodies and memories wouldn't change, but everything else- like their condition (hungry, dirty, beaten up) , their status (rich or poor) and even their assets would change.. Effectively Flipsyde would remodel the full city as if that section of society was living in that condition the whole time

Of course you must be wondering.. If the poor get nothing, then how do they survive?

Flipsyde came with a stealing clause.. If you could get away with stealing resources from the rich, you were free to keep them- (Flipsyde in essence was a limitation on how much resources were used- not where they go) nobody had the authority to come after you for it.. However, if you were caught stealing, you'd be subjected to whatever the owner of the item wished.. Killing for self defense (or defending your property) wasn't illegal, but people generally don't do it- mostly to avoid killing their flip..

Why avoid killing your flip? Remember when I said that every 3 months at Flipsyde your body would switch conditions with your flip? That kind of applies to life as well.. When your flip dies, that means at Flipsyde, your body doesn't have any conditions to be placed in- hence it instantaneously stops existing.. And the conditions of your body? There's no body to take them, so they stop existing as well.. In essence- if your flip dies, you die at Flipsyde..

This brought surprising stability- nobody could go around randomly killing people from the other half of society since not only one, but two people would die from each person killed- making both sides opposed to any unnecessary killings..

But obviously man had a way to adapt and strengthen this system even more.. Each side of society would create a rebel committee for when they were poor- to help raid from the rich and distribute their resources, and a police force  for when they were rich- to protect them from the poor.. (So 2 rebel committees and 2 police committees)

And that's where I cut off my explanation.. Don't get me wrong.. There's plenty more I could tell you about Flipsyde.. But for the story I'm about to tell you, this should be more than enough..

My name? Oh dang it!!! I knew I was forgetting something!

Okay well I suppose it's never too late to introduce myself.. I'm Marcus and I'm 15 years old.. My birthday is on the 3rd of September so don't forget to give me a gift..

I'm a pro at racing games, street basketball and badminton.. I usually have too much energy stored in me and as a result I'm used to taking long morning jogs-At least when I can afford the time.. I love all kinds of music and anime..

Anyways, that's enough about me.. Let's move on to my adventure through Flipsyde.. Keep your seat belts fastened, your socks on (so I can blow them off) and hold your questions till after I'm done...

----------------End chapter 1----------------

So how is it guys? I know its a lot to take in, but trust me, the stuff I got next is totally worth it..

Some FAQ's-

1.  What is Flipsyde exactly?

Flipsyde is actually the name of three different things:

The event of switching with your flip at the end of 3 months

The program in which these Flipsyde events occur every three months

The machine which flips a person and his flip

2. What is a flip?

A flip is essentially a person's counterpart in the other half of the society- meaning if A is B's flip, B is A's flip as well.. Also these flips are issued soon after birth and stay with you lifelong

3. What is wrong with you? Why try and make something so complicated?

Honestly I don't know.. But If any of you do find out, please be sure to cc me the diagnosis :p

I know this chapter's kinda confusing, but I hope I got you guys piqued because next chapter you're gonna see a new and important character :)
