Hey i missed updating to thank you guys for getting me to 100 views!! Thank you all so much :) :)

------------start of chapter 5------------

The back of the ambulance was full of chaos. Though there were only two people in there, they were  flying around the place doing their job- one cutting through the blood soaked towel while the other  held some cotton and tape to close the wound more effectively. All this while trying their utmost best to keep my brother conscious, administer an injection and assess my brother's wounds..

The man from before slowly explained that I had to keep Christopher alert because it would help them later. Saying this, he went to help the others with their jobs.

I made my way to Christopher's head- his eyes were open and somewhat dazed. As I spoke to him, his eyes started to focus towards me. He started to open his mouth, but I told him not to strain himself now. Even without the emergency medical team telling me, I knew he wasn't supposed to be straining himself right now.

Hours seemed to pass as I sang to christopher- his favorite song- a song which our father used to sing with my mom. I knew that it was our personal song, and that I shouldn't be singing it in front of the others, but I knew that if anything could imbue him with the willpower to stay alive, it was that song..

I was right- Christopher's eyes definitely showed a new vigor to stay alive. I knew that I would never hear the end of it.. Sharing our song with someone else.. But that was better than never hearing him again..

Suddenly the ambulance came to a halt. The back doors opened and christopher was whisked away yet again.

I was led into a waiting room, where I spent the next ten minutes waiting for any news about christopher.

Finally mom walked in- she was almost in tears. I looked down. She ran up and hugged me. "Everything's gonna be okay"

I kept my gaze fixed on the floor as I narrated everything I knew about the incident- the money, the blood, the ambulance.

"You did-" she started to say as she was interrupted by a doctor emerging from the trauma center.

"He's alright for now. He was lucky that no major blood vessels were pierced. A major artery was scraped, but we've patched it up.

He told us the amount we'd need to pay for the ambulance, operation and post-operative therapy, and my eyes widened. That was a ridiculously large amount!! We could have easily afforded it when we were rich, but there weren't many options for us to get that much right now..

"Is there any way we could reduce the cost?" My mom asked- Her thought process clearly mirroring mine.

"Not really" the doctor replied. "Right now if we were to cut down the treatment- that is anytime within the next 5 days, it'd probably kill him."

We both stared at him shocked.

"And this is the hardest part for me to say, but the head doctor ordered us to give you a deadline of two days to pay the fees. In the last few weeks, due to the lack of raids, we've been seeing a huge increase in patients, and it seems hardly fair to waste resources on wasting extra resources on someone who may or may not be able to pay the hospital for the extra care provided.. I'm sorry but there's nothing I can do about this"

On the ride home, not a word was spoken.. Both me and mom just sat there thinking about what we could do for christopher..

The silence was finally broken over an early dinner by Dave- who'd been filled in about the situation by mom.

"Sara. Marcus. We have to all try our best to get through this.. I'll go to the rebel alliance and try and apply to get some resources. Sara, you go talk to your boss. Marcus, go talk to everyone you've ever run an errand for. Every penny you can get matters"

"We can get through this.. We just have to believe in our abilities to do this, and keep trying" mom said. "Christopher is depending on us"

"We can do this.. For Christopher!!" I tried to shout out loud- hoping to ignite the determination in the three of us.. However, it came out far closer to a mutter..

Because despite the various ways we were discussing, and all the morale boosting at the table, we all knew there was only one hope for Christopher- stealing from the rich.
