Hey guys :) new update

Not gonna be much chitchat from me today- a race against my pizza delivery boy as I don't intend to keep my stomach waiting..

Here goes nothing :p

------------Start of chapter 4------------

It happened when we were out. Dave assisting with the committee on their strategies to overcome the last move by the police force, mom working her normal assistant job, and me doing my usual errands and work shift.

Every day after my work shift, I'd go back and play all kinds of games with christopher. Board games, 1vs1 basketball, video games.. Yes I know after all that work all day anyone should be in complete zombie mode. But it was still fun since even zombie me could beat my brother in basketball. it had become our daily routine.

But that day was different. As I walked towards the house, I noticed something wrong.. The lights were off.. Slightly worried by the fact that Christopher didn't switch on his lights, in contrast with his daily schedule of switching them on at 5:30 like clockwork, I increased my pace to a jog.

Then I saw it.. A broken window. And I knew what had happened.. Panic seized me as I ran towards the house- fumbling for my key as I did.

I opened the door and started a search of the house- starting from the closest to the broken window to the farthest. First my room, then Christopher's room, the kitchen. And then I saw him.. Sprawled across the floor, semi-conscious in a puddle of blood-  smack dab in the middle of my mom's room. I almost fainted from the sight of blood, but I quickly regained my composure.. Christopher needed me right now, and I wouldn't let him down

I searched for the wound- I was relieved that it was one fairly small wound on the front of his thigh, but at the same time, was worried about the speed it blood was gushing out. I quickly tied a towel around his leg to stop the bleeding before calling up an ambulance. The person on the other end reassured me that help was on its way and ran me through a series of first aid procedures. Finally once we were done, he suggested that I remain calm, and try and keep Christopher conscious as long as I could.

As soon as that call ended, I punched in mom's number. I had to tell her what happened NOW! As soon as she picked up, all my well thought out sentences vanished-I only managed to splutter out the words "Christopher", "hurt", "bad", "come quick"

"What happened?!?"

I looked up- I couldn't think straight while looking at Christopher's blood- and that's when I saw it. The door of the closet- spread wide open, the safe- also open, our money- gone.

It all came together in my mind- the why, the when, the where and even to a vague extent the who..

"Hello?? Marcus?!"

My thoughts were interrupted by my mother's voice.

"The money.. Our money.. It's gone"

From the following silence, I could tell she understood. The implications of losing the money now were disastrous.

"It doesn't matter now, just focus on Christopher. I'm coming." she replied. "And Marcus, stay strong" she said before she cut the call.

I heard sirens in the distance as I put the phone down.. It was without doubt the ambulance.

I rushed to the door and guided the emergency medical team towards christopher and watched- completely powerless in the situation as they picked him up, placed him on a stretcher and whisked him out the door.

I just stood there, not sure what to do at that very moment, when one man stepped back towards me, and said "don't just stand there, your brother needs you now more than ever. If there is even the slightest chance he can hear us, you being around will help him more than you can imagine."

"Now do what I tell you, and we'll save him together," he said extending his hand.

With that one spark of hope he had ignited in me, I took his hand and ran along with him towards the back of the ambulance- determined to make a difference today.
