---------------- start of chapter 15.5---------------------

It was 3:15. I sat in my room wondering if I should start now? Or wait a few minutes?

Nah I guess it was alright.. Marcus could wait a few minutes if I was late..

A wave of guilt passed over me.. I knew I'd helped Marcus out with Christopher.. But was it enough? For the risk I'm putting him into?

I stopped for a moment.. I didn't have a choice.. Dad said it was something important.. Something so important that it couldn't stay at our house..

-------------------------------------------------

Several months back

The night was dark and cloudy.  I could hear the calming pitter-patter  of rain on the roof. I sat at my table reading a book. Even though we were on the poor side, I still had some pocket money saved from when I was rich- which I used to fuel my passion of reading..

I heard footsteps behind me. I turned around to see my dad. He looked like he'd seen a ghost..

"What happened?" I asked.

With an unsure look on his face, he started to talk "what I tell you, you must not repeat to anyone else- no matter what the cost"

I looked at his face again. His expression was grave. Whatever this was, it was serious. I nodded. "I promise."

"Many years ago, I was part of a certain operation. The operation- though successful- cost us many of our operatives. We managed to escape with a pen drive containing all the information we needed. To complete our operation, we needed to spread the information obtained to various cities across the nation. With the severe losses we suffered- which ended up on the extreme end, the three of us survivors decided to slowly recruit members to support our cause. But we had to cover up our tracks...  We worked for 8 long years- to finally destroy everything that could be traced back to us.. Or so we thought.."

"What happened?"

"Tonight one of the remaining three members was murdered"

I was in shock.. I didn't know dad had such a history to him.. I'd assumed he was just a regular businessman when we were rich and part of the rebel committee when we were poor..

"Why are you telling me this?" I asked.

"Isa.. I'm going to have to ask you to do something for me.. It's going to be dangerous.. You can say no if you want to.. I hate that I have to ask you to do this, but this is for a cause greater than the both of us.."

My eyes widened as he told me what he wanted me to do.. Planting the drive in a house on the side that was poor at the time of the raid? That was genius! The poor people have barely enough time to make a living, let alone carry out important operations..

And it made perfect sense too.. If he went, he'd know exactly where it was. If he didn't go, besides the obvious fact that it wouldn't draw heat to him, it would also help him keep it a secret in case we were all captured. When they needed the drive back, I could go back and retrieve it for them.

And the best part? The houses I had to choose from were on the rich side now- meaning that It could be concealed under the guise of a raid..

I knew he was hiding details.. But it didn't matter. He was keeping the details hidden for my safety.. It didn't take long before I came to a decision..

"I'll do it" I said.

----------------------------------

As I climbed through the window, my boot made a slight tap on the windowsill. I was pretty sure nobody had heard it though.. The only person in the room was a kid.. And he was asleep..

I heard him toss in his sleep.. Was this an act or was he really sleeping so lightly? I looked at him- trying to discern whether his movement was natural or an act. After five minutes or so, I decided that it was safe to move forward..

Though it was good news he wasn't awake, it wasn't amazing news.. Either way, I had to move quick.. And quietly..

As I stepped forward- trying to use my light tread to my advantage, I heard the sound of something lightly bump the floor..

It was the kid.. Without a doubt.. With a bead of sweat rolling down my forehead- from my conscious efforts to act normal, I headed forward- before finally lodging the pen drive in a small gap between the desk and the wall. As I did this, I felt my left hand brush over a rough edge.. I examined this further I realized that it was a hole in the back of the desk- probably the work of termites.. After confirming that the drive couldn't slip out, I put the drive inside.. I was about to turn around.. And then I heard a slight click and a voice called out to me.

"Hands up"

I froze. Did he have a gun?? There weren't many chances of me getting out alive if he did.. Defeated, I slowly raised my hands.

The lights switched on.

"Turn around. Slowly"

As I turned, I saw the face of a boy- around my age.. My eyes widened as I saw the gun in his hands- aimed towards my chest.

He looked at me, possibly pondering over what to do with me..

I didn't interrupt. I didn't want to anger him- my life was in his hands.. However, not everything was up to chance. I widened my eyes further a bit and tried to put on an innocent look. Maybe.. Just maybe, he'd let me go..

As time passed, i slowly got less and less confident about my chances of survival.. If he was going to fall for the ruse, he would have by now.. Wouldn't he?

Finally he lowered the gun.. "Go" he said- his eyes full of compassion.

I gave him a look of gratitude before breaking into a run and jumping through the window.

---------------------------------------------------

I brought myself back to an alert state. I looked at my watch.. It was already 3:40!! I only had 5 minutes left!! As I walked out the door, I had the overpowering urge to tell him everything.. But I couldn't.. I had promised dad about it.. And because of that, the life of a nice person like Marcus could be at risk..

I lowered my head. "Im sorry Marcus." I thought in my mind as I started my journey to the bridge
