------------ chapter 28 starts here------------
As Lance walked into the Flipsyde building, I started to think about my plan. Lance seemed to be on the wagon.. If Hans was as well, we might just get through with no complications.
Isa turned to look at me. I gave her a thumbs up to which she responded with a faint smile.
I imagined the times we could spend together after this. All those beautiful scenes, all the activities and all the moments we would incorporate into our journey..
I pulled myself out of my daydream. Now wasn't the time to get distracted!
As I looked into the distance, I could see a black car approach. I smiled. This was undoubtedly Hans.
He raced towards us in his Nissan before finally skidding to a stop in front of me.
For a second, I was confused as to how he had got this car, but that was quickly cleared up by the broken passenger side window.
I fought the urge to run up to him and start talking. Isa had to do this bit to avoid arousing suspicion. She walked up and started conversing with him. Finally Isa motioned for me to come.
This was a good sign- he was taking the bait.
------------------------------------------------------------
(The previous night)
"Okay so we get rid of Hans first?"
"Yes" Isa replied. "I know it's risky getting rid of one of them, but Lance has less of a motive to kill you. In fact there's a chance he might use you as an example to prove his loyalty to his side."
I understood exactly what she meant.. It was a good plan. "And how do you plan to get rid of Hans?"
"Simple" she said. "We give him to Lance"
------------------------------------------------------------
Isa led us through the Flipsyde building. The layout seemed very complicated, but it didn't matter if I was confused as long as she wasn't. Isa had typed out the message to Lance about where to hide, so he would lay in wait for Hans there.
As we walked, I saw a bunch of machine parts and complicated-looking controls on both sides. Some lights glowed eerily as the needles of various instruments moved wildly back and forth.
"How much longer?" Hans asked Isa.
"Just two more rooms." came the reply from up front.
As soon as Isa had her back turned, Hans spun around, grabbed my arm and twisted it behind my back with a loud crack.
As pain shot up my arm and my eyes filled with tears, I couldn't do anything but move into the position he forced me down into. I felt the cold touch of metal on my cheek and knew instantly that it was over.. He had a gun.. And it was pointed straight at my head.. We had failed.
Isa turned around in response to the noise- her eyes widening as she took in what had just happened.
"Did you really think I'd fall for that?" Hans laughed out loud. "I know there's a trap waiting for me in there!"
I was shocked.. How could he know about it?!
----------------------------------------------------
"So how do we do this?"
"We lure Hans into the trap. Lance will be waiting at the end for the capture. Hopefully the fact that you didn't double cross him is enough to barter your freedom. Your freedom for your support. At the very least, the way you fake loyalty should be sensational.. Nothing else will work..
----------------------------------------------------
Tears streamed down Isa's face.
"Don't do anything to him! Please!" She dropped to her knees and begged.
"I'm too smart to fall for that.. I knew you were going to double cross me.. What lies ahead of me is a trap" Hans replied smirking.
I didn't know what to say. How could he know this? Was he that smart?? How could we not be prepared for this? I had failed Isa..
But Isa hadn't given up. "Please Hans.. It's right here.. In two minutes, you can be a whole lot richer.. Your plan can be complete..
"Isa, I know who this boy is.. His uncle works in the police.. I can use him to get something out of them.. Whereas, on the other hand, you have provided me with a nothing.." He said- raising the gun from me to her.
"Please." Isa was now crying desperately- hoping that somehow she could convince Hans to just go with her once.
"Isa. Stop." Hans replied. "You made a nice plan.. I should be impressed- no I AM impressed. It should have worked.. But what you didn't account for, is me."
At that moment, I heard the sickening sound of metal against bone. Hans slumped to the ground.
"And what you didn't account for.. Is me"
