Chapter 5

"Tell 'em that it's my birthday
When I party like that
Every night's my birthday
They don't know, so it's okay
Tell 'em that it's my birthday
When I party like that" - Birthday - Selena Gomez

Even though it's a Monday morning and I'm up early for school, I still woke up in a great mood.

Why you may ask? Well it's my seventeenth birthday!

I love when it's my birthday. Most people do unless they had something tragic happen to them on their birthday. But the only thing close to tragic or bad happening on my birthday was a tornado that came through when I turned eight.

Then the next year on my birthday, I was really sick and I had to be put in the hospital.

Okay so maybe my birthday's haven't always been the best but it's a day that celebrates me and in a family that's big like mine, I like to have the attention on my for a day. I sacrifice a lot since I'm the oldest child in the family so when it's my birthday, I have an excuse to be at least a little selfish and enjoy my day that celebrates me entering the world.

Birthdays' are a pretty big deal in my family anyways. Either a dinner with a family and cake or a big party with friends, we always do something to celebrate a birthday in our family.

Today would be no different.

I checked my phone and I already had messages from family telling me happy birthday. Austin had been the first one to tell me since he texted me right at midnight. His twin Dauton also texted me along with Vanessa even though I'll see her later at school.

I got ready for school and then trudged downstairs for breakfast.

"Happy Birthday sweetie," my mom said giving me a kiss on the cheek.

I smiled, "Thanks mom,"

My dad, brother, and sister chimed in and also told me happy birthday as well.

"Did Vanessa say she could come for dinner tonight?" My mom asked me as I fixed myself a bowl of cereal.

I nodded, "Yes,"

Since I had a big sweet sixteen party last year with family and the few friends I have, we decided to just have a few people go with us to dinner tonight. My parents, siblings, Austin, Dauton, and Vanessa are going to celebrate my birthday by going with me to my favorite sushi place to eat.

I'm pretty stoked about it all but mainly  just the sushi. It's going to be so delicious!

I scarfed down my breakfast, I was running a little behind this morning and I didn't want to be late for school. That would for sure make my birthday terrible if I got detention for being late.

-----

"Happy Birthday!" Vanessa squealed as she attacked me in a hug when I arrived at my locker.

I let out a laugh and hugged her back. "Thanks V, you're the best."

"I can't wait to celebrate tonight." She says.

"Yeah, because you get to see Dauton." I said rolling my eyes. Yes, Vanessa has a boyfriend but she's still vocal about the fact that she thinks Dauton is attractive. She's had a crush on him ever since I can remember and even dating Eli hasn't made that crush go away.

Her cheeks flushed and I could tell she was trying to play it cool. "Shut up, I do not like him like that anymore."

"Are you sure about that? Your cheeks are saying something different." I teased her.
