Chapter 19

"Every little glance my way
Every time you wanted to hang
You seemed so interested
Could you tell me was it real or was it all in my head" - All in my head - Tori Kelly

I wiped my hands off on the rag that was lying on the counter. Today has been a busy day at work and I was glad for a break. With it being a cold Saturday in January, the coffee stand here in the mall was a big hit. The upside of this time of the year is that I get paid more. The down side is that I work more hours and I'm usually too exhausted to go out and hang with friends when I'm off.

Since I had a few minutes of a break I checked my phone and was surprised when I saw Matt's name on the front screen. Immediately, little butterflies erupted in my stomach just at the simple glance of his name across my phone. I held my breath, anticipating what the text for him could have read.

I'm headed to the mall. What time do you get off? Want to meet up?

He knew that I was working today but I realized that I never told him the time that I was suppose to get off. I checked the time and I only had an hour before my shift was over.

My shift is over in an hour. I can meet you at the fountains if that's good with you. I'll bring the coffee. :)

The fountains were right outside the mall and an area for people to go sit and enjoy the outdoors. In the summer the place is always crowded because little kids like to play in the cold water. But in the winter, it's not very crowded which is why I thought it would be the perfect place for us to meet up.

Sounds perfect. See you then.

I smiled at his text. I couldn't wait to see him! It has been a week since he pretended like he was drunk so he could stay at my house since his parents were fighting. We haven't talked much since because we both go to different schools and he's been busy with basketball and I've been busy with work.

I put my phone up and got back to work, ready to be done so I can go see Matt.

An hour went by and it was finally time to go meet Matt out by the fountains. My heart raced just at the thought of seeing him. We have gotten so close lately and it seems like our relationship is finally coming out of the 'it's complicated' phase and now we are really getting along and making things work.

Of course, we are not official. So I do still have a crush on Austin and Kyle. But I'm just friends with them. I don't know if they like me back in that way and I know that Matt has feelings for me back. Or at least I think he does.

I take my apron off and hang it up on the rack. I grabbed the two coffees, one for me and the other for Matt, and make my way outside.

The fountains are on the other side of the mall, so to get there you have to walk through the big parking lot.

As I was walking, I noticed a car that looked to be just like Matt's. Now of course it could be anybody's but it did look a lot like his car and maybe it was since he is suppose to meet me here.

I walked beside the car and when I peeked in, I saw something no one ever wants to see; a couple making out. Like gross! Get a room, not the backseat of a car in the mall parking lot.

I couldn't help but look again though and I noticed that the guy looked a lot like Matt. Of course it couldn't be though. But the guy did have brown hair like Matt and looked to be the same age as him too.

The couple broke away and I instantly made awkward eye contact with them. You would think that my instant move would be to run and hope they didn't think I was weird watching them makeout but I was frozen in place.
