Chapter 28

"I got all I need when I got you and I,
I look around me and see a sweet life, I'm stuck in the dark but you're my flashlight." - Flashlight - Jessie J

Driving in the pouring rain is one of the things that gives me major anxiety. I absolute hate it, and all I want to do is get to my destination.

When I left Matt at the softball fields, I went home to gather my things to go to Austin and Dauton's house. I was staying there for the night since my parents were going away for their anniversary. Since leaving my house, the weather has gotten worse. Light rain turned into heavy rain along with thunder and lightning.

My knuckles tightened on the steering wheel. I was nervous, as I drove through the pouring rain. I could barely see out my windshield and I could feel my heart rate pick up.

I just need to get to Austin's house.

Thankfully, after ten long minutes I arrived. Now that I wasn't driving anymore, I really just wanted to stay in the car so I don't get wet. Yes, I know I can easily dry off. But I cannot stand the feeling of getting wet. Kissing in the rain is the only exception.

I dialed Austin's number as I sat in my car in his driveway.

"Hello?"

"Hey, how much do you love me?" I asked him.

He chuckled. "A lot. Why?"

"I need you to do me a favor."

"As long as it's legal, then sure."

I rolled my eyes. He would say something like that. "I'm here in your driveway. I need you to bring me an umbrella out here so I can come in." I told him. "It's pouring out here."

I heard some rustling in the background. "Yeah, I'm coming."

We hung up and I waited on him. It wasn't but a few seconds later that I see the porch light come on and the front door open. He made a run for it to my car, with the umbrella hanging over him. I opened my door and quickly grabbed my overnight bag. The wind was blowing so hard that we struggled keeping the umbrella over us, but we made it to the house without getting badly soaked.

I thanked him for helping me as we settled in the warmth and dryness of his home.

"That's what I'm here for right?" He flashed me a cheeky smile. I walked through the house to the guest bedroom to put my bag in there. Austin in tow.

"At least you're good for something." I joked.

"Hey now, I actually do a lot for you." He was leaning against the door frame with his arms crossed. He was simply wearing sweat pants and a t-shirt, but golly did he look hot right now.

I really need to get my feelings in control ASAP.

"You really do. So, thank you." I said in all seriousness. I really am thankful for what all he does for me. He goes above and beyond and he's not even my boyfriend or older brother; he's just my best friend.

"It's just you and me tonight." Austin said, changing the subject. "Dauton was at a friend's house and decided to stay there because the storm was getting bad."

I shrugged my shoulders, "Fine with me."

"Have you had dinner?"

"No, and I'm starving." Just in time, my hungry stomach growled.
