Chapter 16
"And he walks in, it all makes sense
Suddenly you're climbing over next to me, next to me
I ain't no fool, you rascal you
You don't want me, you just want your ex to see, ex to see" - Ex to see - Sam HuntWhen it comes to sports in my town, it gets pretty serious. Football is great and everything but basketball is where the focus is at in our town.
And guess who the star of the basketball team is?
If you guessed Kyle, then you guessed right.
The guy is freaking amazing at basketball. He is pretty great at baseball too but he shines as a basketball player. It's not surprising though because Kyle is so tall and muscular. He's been playing since he was a little kid.
But since he was the captain and star player, all the pressure seem to be on him pretty hard. He had to work hard and play his absolute best every game to impress the scouts.
Even though we both promised we would hang out over Christmas break but the truth is that we didn't even see each other once. Every day he was in the gym practicing and getting himself back in shape from his injury from his car wreck.
He pushed himself so hard in the gym that he would be too tired to hang out or do anything whenever he had he chance.
So when we got back to school from Christmas break, I was more than excited to see him.
"Hey stranger," I said sneaking up on him while he stood at his locker, grabbing his books.
He turned around and his lips turned upwards when he saw me. "Becca, I've missed you so much!" He leans down to wrap his arms around me in a hug.
He smells amazing and his strong hold on my waist has my stomach turning flips.
"Now who's fault is that mister?" I said planting my hands on my hips.
He looked at me, his face full of guilt. "Im sorry, I know it's my fault we didn't hang out all winter break. I was just so busy trying to get back in shape."
"We should have warned you Becca, during basketball season we never see Kyle." Macy said walking up to Kyle and I with the others in tow. "He abandons everyone for basketball."
"The pressure is always on me and since I was out for a few weeks, I had to make sure I was on my A game for tonight's big game." Kyle defended.
"But you don't see me spend hours on end in the gym shooting free throws and running through plays do you?" Macy retorted back. She is a basketball player for the girls team along with Chloe.
Macy was joking, however, there was a bit of seriousness to her tone because even though she knows Kyle has a lot of pressure on him, he does tend to work himself too hard at times.
Kyle ignored her and started walking away to his next class so he wouldn't be late. I shook my head knowing he didn't want to answer her since he knew deep down that Macy was right. But he would never admit that out loud.
Thinking Kyle was in one of his moods today, I decided to just leave him alone and head to my next class but before I could do that he stopped walking and turned to me.
"Are you coming with me?"
I nodded, "Yeah,"
He waited for me as I waved bye to the others and hurried to him. He slings his arm around me and pulls me close to his side.
