One Year Later

Close call

Think you might fall

But all you gotta do is try

Even angels

Even angels

Learn to fly.

I pull back the heavy headphones and look through the glass windows for any signs or indications of approval.

"How was that?" I have to ask. I hate waiting. Always have. Always will.

My producer, Nix, maintains a straight face that has me on edge before breaking out in a grin. "You nailed it."

I let out a breath of relief I didn't even realize I was trying so hard to hold in. "Hell yeah."

"Appreciate you coming out with such short notice," I hop off the bar stool and pull my grey cardigan back on. "Especially with today being, well, you know."

"No problem," I wave off her gratitude, as I make my way into the control room.

"There's mommy," Maya points to me as the twins stop their movements and look up with bright smiles. "Didn't auntie sound good?" She pulls fifteen month old Chanel against her chest and laughs as the little girl waves her arms around and mumbles incoherent words.

"Aiden," I watch without surprise or shock as he manages to get up on his own and starts walking toward me. Nadia makes no effort to move and finishes playing with her stuffed animals. "You're getting too mobile for me." I tease, lifting him up and smothering him with kisses.

"Mama!" He exclaims happily, kicking his legs wildly.

"I told you before he's gonna be just like his daddy," Maya comments, as she places Chanel back on the floor and she and Nadia resume playing.

"I think you're right," I chuckle, switching Aiden to my hip. To only be twelve months, he's speeding right through the developments that are normally associated with kids his age.

Hell, he started walking at nine months.

"I know I'm right," Smirking, she buttons up her blazer and shifts in her seat.

"Oh," I look over, remembering where I am and that I have business to handle. Placing Aiden back on the floor, I sniffle a giggle at the annoyed scowl that appears on his face.

He's so spoiled when it comes to getting my attention.

"You mentioned wanting to talk to me about the first single?"

Nix nods, and I lean back against the control panel.

"How do you feel about letting another artist take over 'Lie'?" Hell no. "Before you say no, hear me out." She takes my silence as a cue to continue. "Obviously, your version is still widely popular and has managed to gain airplay, but Paul Rosenburg reached out to Bonnie," Bonnie is my manager and extremely amazing at what she does. Real shit. "And she told me his client is interested in taking the song, having his producers remix it so he can lay down some verses, but would like to keep you on the chorus."

"I appreciate him and his client, whoever that may be, but-"

"Eminem?"

"Funny Nix," I glare and discreetly flip her off, but she doesn't stop smirking. "Holy Fudge, are you serious?"
