After School
Bomp, bomp, bomp.
For the last week or so, [Name] noticed that someone was practicing in the gym after basketball practice.
Bomp, bomp, bomp.
She was immensely curious who it was practicing. Honestly, the only person who she knew to practice after everyone had left was Miyaji. However, she had seen her senior leave school.
Bomp, bomp, bomp.
Sighing deeply, [Name] moved from her spot behind the closed doors. She couldn't go in there even if she wanted to. She was the manager for the second string members, not the first string. The only places she was allowed to go to was the laundry room and the second gym. It really was unfair, but Shūtoku was a strict school.
She grunted slightly as she lifted the basket of clothes. She was mad at her team for causing this much work for her to do, but she was happy at the same time. The dirtied attire proved that her boys were working as hard as the first string starters.
"[Nickname]-chan?"
She turned around. "Ohayo, Takao-kun. What are you still doing here?" she asked, putting down her basket while doing so. She was kind of glad he was here. Maybe he would carry it for her if she asked nicely.
Takao pointed toward the gym. "Actually, I was just about to go in. Do you wanna go in with me?" She frowned while putting her hand on her hip. "You know that I'm not allowed in there," she stated. He rolled his eyes. "Like anyone is going to see you go in there," he said. Holding the door open, he looked back at her. "Are you coming in or are you going to chicken out like usual?"
Picking the basket up, she went through the doors. "Don't get the wrong idea. I'm only doing this because I heard that there's a better washing machine that only you guys get to use," she stated. A cheeky smile appeared on Takao's face. Walking behind her, he slung his arm over her shoulder. "Oi, Shin-chan! Look, I found another tsundere just like you!" he shouted to a male in the middle of the room. The look on his face right after Takao said those words was hilarious. It was like a constipated person had a baby with a dead raccoon (not that it made any sense. You see, [Name] is what we call weird). The basketball that he had in his hands shot forward, though it didn't have the special sparkle that it usually did. Instead, it spun around on the inside of the hoop. The whoosh from the ball going through the net wasn't as spectacular as she hoped it was.
"Takao! You almost made me miss the hoop, nanodayo!" the man, who she recognized to be Midorima Shintarō, yelled out. Takao laughed, leaning over with his hands over his stomach. "Fwah! You shoulda seen the look on your face! It was like a hippo had a baby with a prune!" he said in between his laughter. [Name] was secretly glad that someone had the same sense of humor as she did.
The laughter died down and an awkward silence took its place. Midorima was staring at [Name] more than what was socially acceptable. She turned away from him with a blush on her face. It was embarrassing. The only reason she even was manager of one of the teams was so that she could get closer to him. It probably didn't even make a difference. They weren't in the same class, so he didn't know who she even was.
"Do I know you?"
And that was all it took for [Name]'s heart to break into little pieces. She was expecting it. The real thing was different. His voice was so much colder and distant than she could ever imagine. She wished she could go under a rock and stay there for the rest of her life.
Even though she felt like dying inside, she still smiled to him. "My name is [Last Name] [First Name]. I'm in class 1-B with Takao-kun," she said, internally amazed at how steady her voice was. He nodded to himself before shooting another shot. "I would prefer it if you would leave, [Last Name]-san. You are distracting, nanodayo," he stated before getting another ball.
The fake smile was instantly wiped off her face. She lowered her head just to hear the ball roll in the inside of the hoop and a curse from the greenette. She picked up the basket and turned away. "Do you need help with that, [Nickn]-." A cold glance towards him made him shut up instantly. She hobbled her way out of the gym and away from Takao's view.
She stumbled but kept on going. Her face was bright red with embarrassment. Was this was it felt like to confess to your crush and get rejected? If so, she would never want to experience this feeling again. The words he said kept replaying in her head. Distracting. Please leave. Do I even know you. Tears started flowing down her face. Why was she even manager in the first place if it got her nowhere closer to her goal. A sob escaped her. She was pathetic.
"[Last Name]-san!"
Ignoring the voice, she kept on going forward. [Name] got the keys out and unlocked the door that led to the laundry room. Hearing the footsteps behind her, she quickly opened the door and ducked inside. She dragged the basket and locked the door just in time. She slid down until she sat on the floor. Wiping her eyes seemed useless; as soon as she wiped a tear away, two more would take its place.
Loud knocking was heard from the other side of the door. "Open the door, [Last Name]-san." She recognized the voice to be Midorima's. She stayed quiet, hoping not to make him angry. He sighed loudly. A few silent moments went by before he started talking again. "You're [Last Name] [First Name]. You studied in Hiramine Junior High. I can still remember seeing you in the stands in awe as you watched me and the rest of the Teikō team beat your school 198 to 8. I didn't see you until I saw you walking down the hall with Takao. I can still remember how jealous I got when I saw you talking to him with a wide smile on your face. It was then I realized that I loved you. I tried to suppress the feeling in fear that my shooting might get affected, but every time I saw you it made me feel it more. Not that I would ever tell anyone else, but I was elated when you joined to be manager. Even though it was for the second string, it still gave me the opportunity to see you more. Just... God damnit, just open the door, [First Name]!"
The whole time he was talking, [Name] held her breath. She couldn't believe that he, the supposedly tsundere carrot of Shūtoku High was confessing his feelings to her. She stood up and opened the door. The look that he had on his face was one that he had when he had lost for the first time. She took his face in his hands. "Hey, don't cry. I thought you had more pride than that," she said, wiping away tears that were starting to form at the edges of his eyes. He didn't look her in the eyes in embarrassment. She smiled at his cuteness. "Hey, I still have to do this laundry. Um, do you wanna walk home together?"
Midorima turned away from her, a blush on his cheeks. "I-I'll only do it because a woman your age shouldn't walk home by herself," he mumbled. She laughed, taking his hand and holding onto it. "Then, it'll be a date! See you then!" she chirped. She kissed his cheek and pushed him away so that she could close the door.
He stood outside the door, eyes still wide and jaw still dropped. The place where she had just kissed him was burning. He walked like he was a robot. He bumped into the door to the gym, but continued to walk forward. Ignoring Takao's questions, he picked up a basketball and crouched down, getting into shooting position. His face still stuck in his goofy look, he released the ball.
It was the most perfect shot he had ever made.

I'm gonna start uploading on Tuesdays and Thursday until the ideas stop coming to me.
So, watch out for that!
